National Waffle Day: Crochet Pillow Pattern #yum!

Hi everyone! My name is Molly, from @louloopsco on IG, and creating crochet foods has always been one of my favorite things. There is just something so cute and unique about it. This jumbo breakfast favorite uses none other than the waffle stitch. The waffle stitch is made in series of 3s, and alternates between each row. You can make the pillow even bigger as long as you add stitch counts by 3s. National Waffle Day is August 24th, so make sure to create this and show it off just in time!

 

MATERIALS:

• Clover soft touch 9 mm hook and 5.5 mm hook
• Scissors
• Clover needle set
• Poly-fil stuffing
• Blanket yarn (I’m using Big Twist plush in “Sunflower” and I Love This Yarn in “Light Yellow”).

 

STITCHES & ABBREVIATIONS:

• Chain (ch)
• Double Crochet (dc)
• Front Post Double Crochet (fpdc)
• Slip stitch (ss)
• Stitch (st)

 

NOTE:

The chain 2 at the beginning of a row counts as a stitch. This waffle is made by making 2 waffle squares, and crocheting them together.

 

HOW TO CREATE THE WAFFLE PILLOW:

Row 1: Using the waffle color yarn, chain 20. Double crochet in the 4th ch from the hook, and in

each ch after (18).

Row 2: Ch 2 and turn (remember, this ch 2 counts as your first stitch) *Fpdc in the next st, and

dc in the next 2 stitches*. Repeat what’s in between the asterisks until you get to the last 2

stitches. Finish with a fpdc in the 2nd to last stitch, and a dc in the last. ch 2, and turn.

Row 3: *Dc in one sitch, and fpdc in the next 2 stitches*. Repeat what’s in the asterisks until the

last 2 stitches, and then dc in each of the last 2 stitches.

Rows 4, 6, and 8: Repeat row 2

Row 5, 7, and 9: Repeat row 3

Row 10: Repeat row 2. Tie off.

Repeat the process of Rows 1-10 to create a second panel. Instead of tying off at the end,

match up both waffle squares together. Make sure they are the “right” – more defined, waffley

looking side facing out. Begin to single crochet the sides together. Pause to stuff as you near the

end. Do not over stuff.

 

HOW TO CREATE THE BUTTER:

Row 1: Using yellow yarn and 5.5 mm hook, ch 9. Sc in the second ch from the hook, and the

next 3 stitches (8). Ch1 and turn.

Rows 2-7: Sc in each stitch across, ch 1 and turn.

Row 8: Sc in each stitch across. Ch 1, and sc in each stitch all the way around the border.

Always add 2 stitches when you get to the corners.

Optional: Add safety eyes and a mouth!

 

Sew the butter slice onto the waffle wherever you see fit, and you are all done!! Now I’m craving waffles, so I’m gonna go whip up some real ones to eat. YUMMM! Happy National Waffle Day!
