Scrunchies are making a big comeback in 2021!
Maybe the inability to get a haircut in 2020 has us all tying our hair back! You might as well do it in style and keep your curls protected with mulberry silk!
Knit your own scrunchies with this simple knitting pattern. The Silk Scrunchie is a small project that you can take with you anywhere!
Knit in stockinette stitch, in the round, on Clover Double Pointed Needles, and seamed with a Clover Darning Needles.

Materials
- Clover Double Pointed Needles 7 in (Size US 3) – Art. No 3015-3
- An 11 inch length of elastic
- Clover Jumbo Darning Needle Set – Art. No 340
- Clover Amour Crochet Hook to make the provisional cast on – Art. No 1047/H
- Approximately 50 Yards of Mulberry silk yarn (I used Araucania – Mana)
- A 12 inch length of waste yarn (for your provisional cast on)
Gauge
5 sts per inch
Abbreviations
- st(s): stitch(es)
- CO: cast on
- k: knit
- p: purl
- BO: bind off
Pattern:
Using a size H crochet hook, start with provisional cast on
Provisionally cast on 18 sts with Clover size 3 dpns
Make a crochet chain of 20 sts
Pick up 18 sts from the crochet chain
Without twisting join in the round and knit in sts for 10 inches
String your 11 inch piece of elastic through your tube and secure by tying the ends together in a secure knot, or sew the ends together with your Clover Darning Needle.
Arrange all of your stitches on one needle and cut your working yarn, leaving a long tail for Kitchener Stitch.
Unravel your provisional cast on and place all of the stitches on one needle.
Arranging so your stitches are on the same side of the elastic for Kitchener Stitch.
Use Kitchener Stitch on the live stitches for the cast on and bind off sides.
