Colosseo Beanie – Knit Pattern
Hello Makers! It’s Elise again, the maker and designer behind Frosia Knits. With the weather turning cold, it’s time to start dressing warm and prepping for the winter. My latest pattern, the Colosseo Beanie, will keep you nice and toasty in style.
The Colosseo Beanie is knit in the round, bottom up. It is a quick knit that makes a perfect gift for yourself or better yet, a loved one for the holidays. There is one size available in my pattern but it can be easily modified to your preferences using the instructions in the notes.
The Colosseo Beanie was inspired by the structure of the Colloseum in Rome, Italy. I spent two weeks in Rome for the holidays with my family while studying abroad. I was amazed by how much history was in every nook and cranny of the city. We walked the streets in the cool winter air and were delighted at every turn. The Colosseo was hard to miss and, for me, was even more impressive from the inside. The distinct layers that the arcades create inspired me to design the structure of this beanie. I hope you enjoy!

Notes
This pattern can easily be adjusted to any size or fit. If you need to increase the width of the beanie, do so by increasing your number of cast on stitches in multiples of 2. The row pattern is a 9 round repeat, if you wish to increase or decrease the height of the beanie, repeat round 45-53 as desired and then continue to Round 63.

Cut yarn and thread the end through remaining stitches and cinch tightly. Weave in the ends & block if desired. Create pom-pom with your favorite sized pom-pom maker or add faux pom-pom to finish.
Joining the Double Brim
- Once your hat measures 8 inches, or the desired length, fold the piece in half.
- Begin lining up the first cast on stitch with the first stitch of your current row of live stitches. Be very careful to find the first stitch and match it up correctly. Each stitch from the cast on row will line up with one from your live stitches on your needles.
- Pick up the outside loop of the first stitch you cast on and place it on your working needle (see photo above). k2tog: knit the stitch you picked up together with the first live stitch on your needle.
- Pick up the outside loop of the next stitch you cast on and place it on your working needle. p2tog: purl the stitch you picked up together with the first live stitch on your needle.
- Alternate k2tog and p2tog with each set of corresponding stitches until you reach the end of your round.
