Baby Blue Summer Crochet Tote Bag

Love crochet tote bags? You’ve come to the right place! Today we’re sharing a cute and simple crochet tote bag pattern. This basic crochet tote bag pattern comes together quickly. It might become your new favorite crochet bag for shopping, running errands, going to the park or beach, or using as an everyday purse!

The easy linked single crochet stitch pattern is used to make this tote bag. The linked single crochet (LSC) is a dense, gapless stitch that joins each subsequent stitch. It eliminates the customary holes that exist in regular single crochet, making it ideal for tough products such as bags, rugs, warm blankets, p[dishcloths, and heavy-duty clothes.

This tote bag is made with cord yarn that I received as a gift. The Wonder Cord is 4 mm in size and has approximately 36 yards, although I believe it has far more. In any case, you can use any yarn fiber and the appropriate hook size.

MATERIALS:

NOTES:

  • Read the pattern carefully before starting.
  • This pattern is a very basic design worked continuously in the round, from the bottom up.
  • I recommend using stitch markers to mark the first stitch of each round and another stitch. Remember to move the stitch marker as you progress.
  • The numbers at the end of the row indicate the number of stitches in each round.
  • [ ] – work instructions within brackets as many times as directed.
  • ( ) – work instructions within parentheses as many times as directed or work a group of stitches all in the same stitch or space
  • When you see something like this: 2 lsc, it means you have to work 2 lsc in the same stitch, and when you see something like this: sc 2, it means you have to sc in the next 2 stitches.
  • This pattern can be easily adjusted to your preferred size, but bear in mind that the amount of yarn will not match what is listed.
  • Gauge: 19 sts x 11 rounds = 4 x 4 inches
  • Skill level: adventurous beginner to intermediate
  • Finished measurement: about 12.5 (width) x 12 (height) inches—excluding handles

ABBREVIATIONS:

  • blo: back loop only
  • ch(s): chain(s)
  • pm: place marker
  • sc: single crochet
  • slst: slip stitch
  • st(s): stitch(es)
  • lsc: linked single crochet—look for the horizontal bar or loop on the side of the single crochet you just made (the loop closest to your yarn-holding finger). Insert your hook into this side bar. Without yarning over first, insert your hook into the next chain space, yarn over, and pull up a loop. You should now have exactly 3 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on your hook.

ATTACHING THE HANDLE STRAPS:

  • Placement: Lay your bag flat and measure about 2 inches from the sides and 2.5 inches from the opening. Place your handle in the marked area.

  • Attaching the Straps: Sew the strap to the bag with your thread and needles. Take your time and avoid moving the handle to ensure that your work looks good. To secure the handles in place, use a clip or a similar device. Repeat the same for the other handle once you’ve completed the first.

  • Fasten off and weave in all ends. And now you have a new tote bag!
