The PERFECT Ballerina Bow + Claw Clip Combo

Hi all, it’s Rumer (@rumer_has_it on IG)! 🙂 With the summer days continuing to be hot and sticky where I am, I’ve been wanting to dress up some of my hair accessories to keep my hair up and out of my face. I was reminded of a bow claw clip I picked up this year during one of my travels. It’s a regular claw clip that holds my hair up well, with bows on both sides. I’ve been seeing a lot of similar accessories popping up on my feed too, so I figured, why not make some myself?

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

• ¼ yard of fabric
• Matching thread
• Hand sewing needle
• Wonder clips https://clover-usa.com/products/wonder-clips-assortment-10-pcs
• Sewing pins
• Craft glue/hot glue gun
• Loop turner
• Scissors
• Hair clip/claw clip
• Ruler

 

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Cut two 6×13” rectangles and two 3×4” rectangles.

2. Fold a 6×13” rectangle with right sides together along the longest edge. Sew using a 1cm seam allowance.

3. Trim the seam allowance in half and use a loop turner or your fingers to turn the tube right side out.

4. Repeat steps 2-3 on the remaining 6×13” rectangle.

5. Fold a 3×4” rectangle with right sides together along the longest edge. Sew using a 1cm seam allowance.

6. Trim the seam allowance in half and use a loop turner to turn the tube right side out.

7. Use an iron to press along the seams of the longer tubes and then press the shorter tubes with the seam in the center of one side (which will become the back side).

8. Use an iron to press one of the raw edges of the longer tube folded 1cm to the wrong side. Place the remaining raw edge into the area you just folded and pressed and pin this in place. It should now look like one continuous loop. Repeat with the other matching piece.

9. Edgestitch the continuous loop closed. Repeat with the other matching piece.

10. Take the continuous loop and position it so that the seam is centered at the back. Use a needle and matching thread and enter the fabric from the back and circle the thread multiple times around the center of the loop to create a cinched bow look. Once satisfied with how secure the cinched area is, tied off the thread. Repeat with the other matching piece.

11. Use fabric glue to secure the small tube around the center of the cinched bow. Use a pin to hold the ends of the small tube in place while the glue dries.

12. Once the glue is dry, cut off the excess fabric from the small tube.

13. Use fabric glue to secure each bow to either side of the hair clip. Let the glue dry.
