Flower & Leaf Cushion Pillows *free pattern*

Hello everybody! It’s Duana with @duana_m_chandler and @duanastudio. It’s finally springtime! I am excited to share with you these cozy flower and leaf cushions to add a little more joy to the nice weather. Whether you want to brighten up your living room or add a pop of color to your patio, the free pattern makes it easy to sew your own. I was inspired by RNS Crafts to make these cushions and I really enjoyed sewing it. I made it with soft fleece, but you can make it with any soft fabric that you want. Grab your Clover materials and let’s get sewing!

MATERIALS:

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Pin the pattern pieces to the fabric using the Clover Flower Pins. Cut the pattern pieces out using the Clover Rotary Cutter according to the instructions on the pattern leaving about 1/2″ seam allowance to sew around the pieces. The Leaf and petals are to be cut on the fold.

2. Use the Clover Wonder Clips to hold the pieces of fabric together and with right sides together, sew the pattern pieces together using a sewing machine or serger. It is important to leave an opening about on the flat edge of the petal, the axil of the leaf, and about 2 inches of the flower center.

3. Take the five flower petals and center and turn it right sides out. Fill them with polyfil. Make sure it’s not too tightly filled, but is still soft with a little room. This will give it a more natural look.

4. Use the Clover Embroidery Needles and stitch the flower center together using a ladder stitch. Use a basting stitch to close the open edge of the petal. This will help make the petals look more natural.

5. Pin the five petals together at the sides to form a circle. This is to keep them close together. Using the needles, do a large basting stitch around the petals, tightening closer together.

6. Take the flower center and rest it on top of the petals at the center. You can use another ladder stitch to seal them together, however, I have found that using a glue gun and gluing the center on top of the petals was faster and more efficient.

7. For the leaf, fill with polyfil. Make sure it’s not over filled. There will need to be enough room to top stitch using your sewing machine. Once filled, seal the opened edge with a ladder stitch.

8. Create markings on the leaf using the Clover Marking Pen to mimic a real leaf. Using your longest stitch on your sewing machine, top stitch directly on the markings on the leaf. I started at the axil.

Here are the finished products and you can adjust the colors of the fleece fabric to fit your home aesthetic or outdoor furniture. I hope you enjoy making these flower and leaf cushions as much as I did! Happy sewing!
