Summer Tiered Dress for Kids

Hello, it’s Duana with Duana Studio (@duana_m_chandler & @duanastudio) and we are in beach season, so I thought it would be great to create a cute Summer dress pattern for my daughter to wear. I love making clothes for my daughter! She especially loves dresses, and she can wear this at the beach or even to the park, or put a denim jacket over it for chillier days. But it is such a cute and easy summer dress that I drafted for her and created it into a pattern that I can reuse ALL SUMMER. I also love this floral fabric that I got from Hobby Lobby and I think it adds the perfect touch that screams “summer is here!” Let’s get started!

MATERIALS:

INSTRUCTIONS:

Cut out the pattern pieces using the instructions on the pattern. I used the Clover Rotary Cutter because it cuts smoothly and quickly. It is especially helpful when the fabric has a little stretch.

2. Take the pieces for the straps and fold lengthwise with the right sides together. Stitch using ?” seam allowance.

3. Using the loop turner, turn the straps right sides out. The Clover Loop Turner is one of my new favorite tools. It makes turning straps so much easier!

4. Matching circle notches, baste stitch the straps to the front and back of the dress bodice.

5. Place the other bodice pieces the right sides together on the front and back and use the Clover Wonder Clips to hold them in place. Stitch the sides of the armholes and the center. Leave sides open. Turn right sides out and then stitch sides together.

6. Take the front and back tier 1 of the dress and stitch them together at the sides. Create gathering stitches at the top of the tier 1 and use Clover Wonder Clips to hold it in place the right sides together.
