How We Use It: Clover’s Stitch Dome

Y’all know by now that we are all about the upcycle and reuse of garments (and textiles of all sorts) whenever possible. So, when we found an old button-up shirt in winter storage, we started looking for a way to bring it back to life. Thanks to Clover’s Stitch Dome we took this fashion atrocity out and gave it new life! We embroidered a little flower on the collar of the shirt, and it’s to die for (of course in the best way possible), so we’re gonna show you how we did this using this nifty tool! Yes, Clover’s Stitch Dome allowed us to tension the fabric perfectly for some embroidery handwork in a spot that we could NEVER have serviced with an embroidery hoop. The small, gleaming, convex dome along with the perfectly designed securing band, held the collar in place and allowed us to adjust the tension and maneuver the fabric without undoing screws or moving stiff frames. There’s no way could an embroidery hoop have been used to do this handwork with such ease in such an awkward spot.

Try out the Stitch Dome for all types of visible mending but don’t be shy about putting it into action for embellishing tough-to-reach places like collars, pockets, shirt cuffs, sleeves, button bands, collars (like ours!), or pant legs. Grab a needle and some embroidery floss to create your own custom embellishments. We hope you give it a try! NOTES:

A few things we wanted to explain about our process shown in the accompanying video on Clover’s YouTube channel! We used 3-strands each of the two individual colors held together for our flower, then we used six strands of a single color for the center French Knot. We also used a short sashiko needle due to the thickness of the area we were stitching in. Even with a less flexible needle like this, the Stitch Dome made the stitches come out perfectly.
