Spooky Season Scarf!

I’m Krista Ann from @explorewithknitsy on IG, and it’s probably fair to say that the fall season is the knitters’ favorite time of the year….The evenings turn cold, the air becomes crisp, the leaves begin to change, and best of all, the warm winter knits come out of the closet! So dust off your larger needles, grab some bulky yarn, bundle up in your coziest pajamas, and bundle up by the fire for an evening in of knitting! This autumn scarf was designed to be a piece that will keep you warm as the season changes. It also makes a great, quick + easy gift for a loved one. You can knit it out of their preferred colors or maybe their favorite sports team colors! Have fun with your color choices – there is no wrong color combo! You also don’t need to stress too much about gauge for this project. And if you want to make your scarf a different size, no problem! This pattern is easy to adjust to fit any sized scarf you want to knit up. During this time of year where life gets hectic, enjoy making a relaxing, simple knit at the end of a long day of holiday shopping!

 

MATERIALS:

• PRO “Takumi” Circular Knitting Needle 16in. No. 10.5 (6.5mm)
• Darning Needle Set
• Patchwork Scissors (Mini)
• Yarn:
  • Knit Picks “Swish Bulky”
  • 100% Fine Superwash Merino Wool
  • 137 yards/125 meters
  • 2 skeins in 2 different colors (4 skeins total)
  • Sample done in Color Allspice (MC) and Honey (CC)

GAUGE:

16 sts and 30 rows = 4 inches / 10 cm in pattern stitch

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS:

Finished measurements are 10.75 in / 27 cm wide and 68 in / 173 cm long

ABBREVIATIONS:

• cc – contrasting color
• co – cast on
• mc – main color
• sl1 – slip one stitch
• st/sts – stitch/stitches
• wyib – with yarn held to the back
• wyif – with yarn held to the front

NOTES:

• If you want to make your scarf a different width, pattern is a multiple of 6 + 1.
• You can make your scarf as long or short as you want by continuing to repeat the four rows. If you want a longer scarf, you will need more yarn. This scarf used up almost all of the four skeins of yarn.

PATTERN:

Using long tail cast on and mc, co 43 sts

Set Up Row (mc): wyif sl1, K to last st, P1

Row 1 (cc) RS: *wyib sl1, K5* to last st, wyif sl1

Row 2 (cc) WS: wyib sl1, *K5, wyif sl1* to last st, wyif sl1

Row 3 (mc): wyib sl1, K2, *wyib sl1, K5* to last 4 sts, wyib sl1, K2, P1

Row 4 (mc): wyib sl1, K2, * wyif sl1, K5* to last 4 sts, wyif sl1, K2, P1

Repeat Rows 1 – 4 until you have about 9 ft / 2.75 m remaining. End after working a Row 2. (NOTE: If you cast on more stitches than written in this pattern, you will need enough yarn to work two full knit rows with no slipped stitches in order to finish off your scarf.)

Next Row (mc): wyib sl1, K to last st, P1

Next Row (mc): BO in knit stitch

Cut both mc and cc yarns.

Weave in tails.

If necessary, lightly block your scarf. Finish off your look with a spooky broach and keep your neck cozy!
