My Favorite Sewing Tool Kit-Tutorial

Hello friends!  I’m so super excited to share my latest sewing project with you.  Here’s the thing… I love to sew “on the go”.  Rarely do I go anywhere that I don’t have a little project in the car.  If I’m not the one driving, I’m doing some kind of hand sewing!  Recently I went to New Mexico to be with my mom and I knew that I was going to be there awhile and I wanted to take ALL my favorite Clover tools so I needed more than just my simple sewing tool pouch!

Enter the Sew Together Bag.  I’ve made this pattern before and I’ve loved it.  It has three zippered pockets inside that actually end up creating seven different storage areas (between the zip pockets and pockets created by the fold).  Maybe you can tell from the picture below.  But seriously, this bag is amazing.

I’m anxious to show you a lineup of my favorite Clover Sewing Tools to have on the go, but first, let’s talk about a few details I added in sewing the bag.

As with almost all the sewing projects I make, I love to have some hand quilting in there somewhere.  This project was no different.  Clover definitely has the best tools to assist in all the hand quilting and hand sewing projects.  When I hear that people do not enjoy hand quilting or hand sewing I realize right away it’s because they aren’t using the right tools.  It really does make a difference!

I also did a little of the big stitch quilting to sew on the fun little selvage pieces and really personalize this little sewing kit.

Note:  The fabric collection I used for this bag is called Betsy’s Sewing Kit by Poppie Cotton.  So I cut the word “Betsy’s” off the selvage and used the remaining words “Sewing Kit”… I mean seriously, how cool is that?!!!

This bag has three complete zipper pockets inside.  I hope you’re not intimidated about sewing zippers into bags and pouches.  There really is nothing to be afraid of and the zips in this bag are especially simple.  These pockets are approximately 9 x 4 inches and are great for holding so many tools!

The other really amazing thing about this Sew Together Bag is that the final long zipper that closes the entire bag up snuggly is sewn in place with binding.  You attach both of the zippers ends to the edges of the bag and it creates handles.  I mean, seriously, this is so brilliant!  It also zips the bag really snug so you don’t have to worry about anything falling out… even our favorite Clover Wonder Clips!

So once my bag was complete, I lined up all the tools that I use consistently and keep at the ready all the time.  And these were also the tools that I wanted to take to New Mexico with me.

And YAY!!!  Everything fit perfectly.  And I didn’t have to leave out a single one of my favorite tools.  (Not pictured is my thread, but it fit as well.)

Then, you just zip is all up and you never, ever have to worry about not having just what you need when you either leave on a trip or just sit outside on your porch to hand sew, which I also do quite frequently!
