Amigurumi Mother & duckling pair– Mother’s Day Gift

Hello! I’m Mary from MarysYarnBasket! Make this adorable mother duck and duckling duo to celebrate this Mother’s Day! They can be made in a variety of sizes and work up quick! You can find the inexpensive pattern in a printable PDF version in my Etsy shop as well.  (etsy.com/shop/marysyarnbasket)

 Abbreviations

(U.S. crochet terms)

ch – chain

sc – single crochet

MR – magic ring

sl st – slip stitch

dec – crochet two stitches together (decreasing)

inc – crochet two stitches into the same stitch (increasing)

*– repeat around (unless otherwise noted)

Materials

 

  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle
  • Poly-fil stuffing
  • Premier Parfait Chunky:
    • White
    • Sunshine
    • Tangerine
  • Bernat blanket yarn:
    • White
    • Buttercup

Mother Duck

Body – (white)

  1. Place 6 sc into a MR (6)
  2. inc around (12)
  3. sc, inc* (18)
  4. sc 2, inc* (24)

5-7. sc around (24)

  1. sc 2, dec (18)

Insert the safety eyes in-between rounds 5 and 6. Place them 6 stitches apart.

  1. sc, dec* (12)

Stuff the head.

  1. inc around (24)

11-12. sc around (24)

  1. sc 3, inc* (30)

14-16. sc around (30)

  1. sc 3, dec* (24)
  2. sc 2, dec* (18)

Stuff the body. Continue to stuff as you go.

  1. sc, dec* (12)
  2. dec around (6)

Fasten off and sew shut.  Weave in tail.

Beak – (orange)

  1. ch 4
  2. starting in the second ch from the hook, sc 2, sc 3 into the last stitch
  3. turn and crochet down the other side, sc 2, sc 3 into the last stitch (10)
  4. sc around (10)
  5. sl st and fasten off. Leave a tail for sewing.

Wings – (white) X2

  1. Place 6 sc into a MR (6)
  2. sc, inc* (9)
  3. sc around (9)
  4. sc along the top to shut the wing. Leave a tail for sewing.

Feet – (orange) X2

  1. Place 4 sc into a MR (4)
  2. ch 1, turn your work, inc in each stitch. (8)

Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing. Weave in the MR starting tail.

Assembly:  Sew the beak in-between and just below the eyes. Attach wings on each side of the body at round 11. Sew the feet to the bottom of the duck.

Duckling

Body – (yellow)

  1. sc 6 into a MR (6)
  2. inc around (12)
  3. sc, inc* (18)

4-5. sc around (18)

Insert safety eyes in-between rounds 4 and 5, 4 stitches apart. Embroider the beak in-between and below the eyes. Feel free to embroider the beak at the end if you wish.

  1. sc, dec* (12)

Stuff the head.

  1. sc, dec* (8)
  2. inc around (16)
  3. sc 3, inc* (20)

     10-11. sc around (20)

  1. sc 3, dec* (16)

Begin to stuff the body. Continue to stuff as you go.

  1. sc 2, dec* (12)
  2. dec around (6)

Fasten off and sew shut. Weave in tail.

Use a scrap of yellow yarn and place “feathers” on top of the head. Use a yarn needle and thread thru a stitch on top of the head and tie in a knot. Trim to your liking.

Wings – (yellow) X2

  1. sc 4 into a MR (4)
  2. sc, inc* (6)
  3. sc along the top to shut the wing. Leave a tail for sewing.

Feet – (orange) X2

  1. Place 2 sc into a MR (2)
  2. ch 1, turn your work, inc in each stitch. (4)

Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing. Weave in the MR starting tail.

Assembly: Attach wings on each side of the body at round 9. Sew the feet to the bottom of the duck.
