Sun Rays:

Use K hook and two strands of pale yellow held together, make 16

*we are essentially making two triangles for each ray, then sewing them together to make a little triangular plushie, the rounds worked in BLO are to give depth to the piece*

*CH 1 does NOT count as first stitch*

Row 1: CH 2 and work 1 SC in the second CH from hook (1)

Row 2: CH 1 and turn, then work 2 SC into the one stitch on the row (2)

*CH 1 and turn to work along the side of the piece, work 1 SC into each of the next 11 spaces along the side, work 3 SC into the space at the point, then work 1 SC into each of the next 10 spaces along the other side of the piece, and slip stitch into the last stitch (36)

**CH 1 and work in BLO, work 1 SC into each stitch around and join, finish off and leave a tail for sewing on every other piece, weave in ends on the opposite to make assembly easier. (36)

Assembly:

Sew two triangles together using the tapestry needle and the tail end of yarn you left on one of the triangles. Weave the yarn back and forth using a whip stitch through the tops of the last round of stitches we made. Stuff as you go, finish off and weave in ends. You should have 8 rays at the end of this process.

*To add the rays to the sunshine place one along the edge of the sunshine body and sew it down, then place another ray on the opposite edge straight across from the original and sew that down. Then add the next one in between the first two and the one after that directly across from it. Keep adding the rays in that fashion until they’ve all been added. Sewing them down like that helps keep them evenly spaced.

Eyes:

Use K hook and two strands of white yarn held together, make two

Round 1: CH 2 and work 6 SC into the second CH from hook, join to form a small circle  (7)

Round 2: CH 1 and work 2 SC into each stitch around and join (14)

Round 3: CH 1 and work (2 SC in the first stitch, 1 SC in the next) repeat around and join (21)

Round 4: CH 1 and work (2 SC in the first stitch, 1 SC into each of the next two) repeat around and join (28)

Rounds 5-6: CH 1 and work 1 SC into each stitch around and join (28) finish off and leave a tail for sewing

*assembly: place the eyes a little lower than halfway down the sunshine body and about 7 rows out from the center, then sew them down and weave in ends.

**for the pupils cut two small circles of black felt, cut a small highlight out of them and glue down using fabric glue or hot glue, you could also sew them if you wanted.

Mouth:

Use F hook and one strand of yarn, make one

Round 1: CH 2 and work 6 SC into the second CH from hook and join to form a small circle (7)

Rounds 2-13: CH 1 and work 1 SC into each stitch around and join (7) finish off and leave a tail for sewing.

*cinch the end closed, DO NOT stuff, position between the eyes and sew down.
