Beaded Tree Wall Hanging

Christmas is just around the corner! Are your Christmas decorations all setup? I’ve noticed that so many had started decorating their houses even before Thanksgiving Day! I guess it’s the new normal now!

Hi! My name is Elisa, the maker, and designer behind Strings and Cuddles. Around this time last year, I also shared a festive pattern called Joy, Love, Peace Christmas Wall Hanging. Today, I am sharing another Christmas décor pattern, and guess what? It’s another wall hanging décor!

It’s been on my to-do list to work with beads. I’ve been wanting to incorporate beads on my crochet pattern and I have accomplished that goal in this pattern that I am sharing today.

Let me introduce you to the Beaded Tree Wall Hanging pattern! It may look like a lot of work but I tell you, it’s so much fun and it’s not that complicated as it looks.

This pattern features the single crochet and loop stitch crochet stitches. The added fringe is a great finishing touch. I also decided to use a dried tree branch instead of the usual dowel for the wall hanging. The tree branch gives an overall rustic vibe.

So without any further delay, let’s get started!

Worsted Weight (#4) Yarn ( White/Gray, Green, Red, Brown)
Crochet Thread – Yellow (for the Star)
Crochet Hook Size H | 5 mm (or size to obtain gauge) – Art. No 1047/H
Crochet Hook Size G | 4 mm (for the Star) – Art. No 1045/G
Tassel Maker (Large) – Art. No 9941
Mini Patchwork Scissors – Art. No 493/CW
Tape Measure
Jumbo Darning Needle Set – Art. No 340
Translucent Pony Beads – 100 pcs
Dowel or Dried Tree Branch, approximately 20 inches
Optional: Small Gift Ornaments, Pompom

Gauge:

15 sts x 18 rows = 4 inches (Unblocked)

Finished Measurement:

16” (width) x 21” (height – including the fringe and excluding the hanger)

Notes

Read the pattern carefully before starting.
Each row begins with chain 1 but this beginning or turning chain DOES NOT count as a stitch.
This pattern is worked from the bottom up, from right to left, and turning each row (back and forth).
When the pattern is written as W2, this means, you have to make single crochet with white color (or whatever color the instruction calls for) in the next 2 sts. Another example, G5 means with green yarn single crochet in the next 5 sts.
With all the colors and numbers, I recommend using a highlighter to track your progress.
When changing colors, you can just float the non-working yarn at the WS of your work and pick it up when you need it.
Pay attention to the LEGEND for what stitch goes to each color. Remember that Y was used to represent the placements of the beads and it doesn’t mean that you have to use yellow yarn. With Y, you still have to use green yarn with the bead using loop stitch.

Pattern:

Before we begin crocheting, take your tapestry needle and thread the green yarn, let’s string all the beads to the yarn. See photos below.

Y: Yellow – is used to represent Green Yarn with Beads using Loop Stitch

W: White – SC (I used gray instead of white)

Fasten off. Weave in all ends.

Tree Topper

You can either add a pompom as a topper or a star. If you opted to use a pompom as a topper, with your pompom maker, make a pompom then attach it to the top of the tree.

Star Pattern

With a 4 mm hook and yellow crochet thread, make a MR, ch 3 (counts as 1 DC), make 14 DC into the ring, sl st in the top of ch 3 to join. *Ch 6, sl st into the 2^nd ch from the hook, SC in the next ch, HDC, in the next ch, DC in the next ch, TC in the next ch, sk 2 DC sts, sl st into the next DC st*; Rep from * to * around. Leave a long tail for sewing or attaching it to the top of the tree.

Position your star on top of the tree and with the long tail, attach it by sewing the star to the tree. You can either sew the star or to every point side of the star. Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Adding Fringe to the Wall Hanging

I used the Clover Tassel Maker (Large) to cut strings for my fringe. If you don’t have a tassel maker, you can cut cardboard 5 inches in height. Cut 33 strings of each yarn color (white, red, and green).

Now, take 3 strings (1 of each color) and attach them to the lower part of the wall hanging. Add the fringe to every other st of the lower part of the wall hanging.

How to Add the Dowl or Tree Branch

Take your dowel or the tree branch and position it on top of your wall hanging. Thread the white yarn into the tapestry needle and insert it into the first st on the top right of the wall hanging, going under the dowel or tree branch the over and insert again into the next st. Repeat this procedure up to the last st. Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Now, work 50 to 80 chs, depending on how long you want the hanger. Leave long tails on both ends for tying the hanger to the dowel or tree branch.

Take one end of the long tails and tie it to the dowel or the tree branch. Take the other end and do the same.

Photo Tutorial on How to Incorporate the Beads into the Loop Stitch

Slide one bead next to the stitch where you’re going to work the Loop Stitch. Insert hook into the next stitch and work the Loop Stitch but make sure that the bead goes inside the loop. See photos below.
