Isla Purse – Crochet Pattern

Hello there! This is Sarah, the designer behind Crafts by Sarah Liz. I am so honored to collaborate with Clover to bring you the Isla Purse pattern. Clover’s Amour Crochet Hooks are my go-to hooks. I use them for nearly all my projects, including this one.

The Isla Purse pattern uses worsted weight cotton yarn, and is worked in the round. The strap can be sewn onto the purse, or for an added detail you can sew D-rings onto the purse, and attach your strap to the rings. Add some fringe, and a toggle button and you have a functional and beautiful purse with all the boho feels.

My children have always been a huge inspiration for me, and my daughter loves purses and bags right now. I decided to create two sizes of this pattern for one of the cutest mommy and me sets ever! She is obsessed with her purse! Here’s what you need to make them:

  • Mini Patchwork Scissors – Art. No 493/CW
  • Tapestry Needle Set (Bent Tip) – Art. No 3121

STRAP:

Note: I am 5’8”, so if you are shorter and find the strap too long, you may need to make a shorter strap by chaining 131 instead of 151

  1. CH 101 (151) leaving a long tail for sewing strap. SC in 2nd CH from hook. SC in each remaining CH. 100 (150) sts.
  2. CH 1, turn. SC in each st across. 100 (150) sts.
  3. Repeat 2nd row 2 (4) more times.

Sew strap onto purse.

Optional – Sew D-rings onto sides of purse. Sew straps onto D-rings.

FRINGE:

Cut 50 (90) strands approximately 8 (11) inches long. Loop 2 strands around the post each DC along the front of round 9 (13). I also put fringe around each post/leg of the DC5tog. Trim fringe to approximately 2.5 (4) inches.

BUTTON:

Sew toggle button on front of purse. CH 12 sts and sew loop on the back of purse.
