The Christmas Sweater Beanie – Knit Pattern

Hello there! I am Rin, the maker behind Rin Knits and Stuff. I am a pattern designer and yarn dyer who loves all things Christmas. Christmas has always been a magical time for me.

Growing up Christmas was always a big deal filled with all the decorations, twinkling lights, family movie nights, crafts, and of course sweaters. To keep the magic alive I thought it would be fun to create a beanie that would remind me of all the funky Christmas sweaters out there.

So here it is the Christmas Sweater Beanie.

Materials

– Three different colored skeins of Super Bulky Yarn (I used Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick)
– Interchangeable Knitting Needles 8mm (US 11) + 9mm (US 13)
– Interchangeable Cord-16 inch (Art. No 3645)
– Tapestry Needle Set – Bent Tip (Art. No 3121)
– Quick Locking Stitch Markers-Large (Art. No 3032)
– Mini Patchwork Scissors (Art. No 493/CW)

Optional: Pom – Create your own extra large pom with Clover Pom-Pom Maker or use a faux fur pom. My favorite is the color Latte from Sierra’s Crafty Creations.

Gauge:

10 sts x 12 rows – using 9mm (US 13) needles  in stockinette

Abbreviations:

c1 – color one (red)
c2 – color two (cream)
c3 – color three (green)
K- knit
k2tog – knit 2 stitches together

Pattern:

With 8mm needles cast on 45 stitches (long tail cast on) with c1.

The stitch you casted on last (where the working yarn and tail will be) should be on your right hand needle. Slip the first stitch you casted on (it’s on the left needle) to the right needle then pass over the last stitch you cast on, over the first. You now have 44 stitches on your needles. (Make sure the stitches are not twisted) Place a stitch marker to mark beginning of the round.

Rows 1-8: Knit 2, Purl 2 around in c1
