Fall Wardrobe Sewing & GIVEAWAY with Lily Shine Creates

Hello!!! I am Cassie of Lily Shine Creates and super excited to be a guest on the Clover blog today! A few months ago, they had reached out and asked if I would like to receive a #CloverSquad box. I was familiar with Clover products at the time but didn’t have a ton of sewing tools so I of course said yes!

The box arrived full of great sewing gadgets that I immediately put to use. I enjoyed using the products so much that the Clover social media team and I thought to put together a collaboration for fall! I had planned to add a few great staple pieces to my fall wardrobe and thought showcasing these wonderful products as I created each garment would be a fun way to share about Clover!

I love to share behind the scenes and keep my readers updated on progress via Instagram stories and made a “Fall Wardrobe” highlight just for this collaboration. I think video is a great way to show how each sewing tool can be useful, so I hope you enjoy seeing each one go to work!

Today, I wanted to share with you the garments I made for this project and of course link you up with the great tools that helped me complete each look.

Hudson Pants

First up, I sewed a pair of olive green Hudson pants. If you aren’t familiar with this pattern, it typically calls for knit fabrics but I explained in my blog post how I adjusted for this great woven fabric instead! My favorite tool for this project has to be the Clip ‘n Glide Bodkin. Elastic casings can be tricky but not so much with this helpful tool!

Kalle Shirt Dress

Next, I had been wanting to add a really chic, Kalle shirt dress to my closet this fall. I love layering it with distressed jeans or just wearing it alone on a warm day here in East Texas! My favorite tool for this project was the Button Hole Cutter. I had been using a pin and seam ripper but you know how that can get scary at times! This cutter made it super easy and precise to open each buttonhole on the shirt dress (and there are a lot of them)!

Twist Back Tops

My third project was a dual sew of Twist Back tops. I love this new trend with sweaters and think it adds such a chic detail! I loved using the Wonder Clips for these two tops- the clips held tight to the slinky knit and allowed for a super fast sew!

Lander Pants

Lastly, I made a really fun striped pair of Lander Pants. I love all things with pockets, and was so thankful for the Point 2 Point Turner to get those nice crisp corners in all 4 pockets!

Must-Have Tools

In each project I found myself constantly reaching for a few of the same tools:

  • Rotary Cutter: I have a 4′ x 6′ cutting mat on my massive cutting table and using a sharp rotary cutter is my favorite way to cut out patterns! I have used this same rotary cutter to make 2 wool coats, 2 fleece coats, a faux leather jacket, and all of my fall wardrobe pieces and it’s still as sharp as can be!
  • Water Erasable Marker: I am not a notch cutting kind of person but I love using a thick marker to transfer any pattern markings to my fabric pieces. I love how easily this erases with just a dab of water when I’m done with the marking or I made a mistake!
  • Water Soluble Pencils: It is great to have multiple color options for markings on your pattern pieces. I used all three colors to note different types of markings: darts, aligning, pocket placement, etc. Having a pencil versus a marker is great for knit or fabrics with a loose weave.
  • Hot Ruler: Confession: I used to just eye ball my hems and folds (yikes) but thanks to this great tool I can get precise folds and hems with ease! I love that I can iron right on top of it and it doesn’t slip around as I continue to press.

Sewing tools can be so helpful as you create new garments. I feel like they just add an extra sense of ease and productivity. I am so thankful for this opportunity to share with you a few new makes from this fall and also the great Clover products that made it all possible! You can head to my blog to read more about each garment and see more photos. Please join me on Instagram to follow along with all my creative adventures. Big thanks to Clover for this opportunity and for gifting me with these amazing sewing tools!
