Reflective Ghost Beanie – Crochet Pattern

Hi again guys! I’m Nadine, I’m the mama bear maker behind all things BuddyLuvsCrochet. I love to crochet & how it allows me to show my creativity. I enjoy creating amazing new things. I recently started creating my own patterns & I’m excited to get to share this one with you all!

So in collaboration with Clover, I came up with a cute idea that I thought would be the perfect make for Halloween. Introducing the Reflective Ghost Beanie.

This pattern is intermediate friendly, using fair isle crochet also known as the waistcoat stitch. I love using this technique because its stitches closely mimic knit. It also creates a warm & sturdy piece. You’ll be using 2 skeins of yarn, one black & the other is a fun yarn I like to use, Red Heart Reflective Yarn. The ghost is crocheted in reflective yarn & can be seen in the dark when light is flashed on it. How cool is that? Let’s get started!

Difficulty Level:
Intermediate

Materials needed:

Abbreviations:

  • ch – chain
  • sc – single crochet
  • mc – main color
  • cc – contrasting color
  • wc – waistcoat or knit stitch
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • blo – back loop only
  • fo – fasten off
  • rep – repeat

Gauge:

11 st x 14 rows = 4″ square

Finished Size: Should measure approximately 10 1/2 in width x 13 in height

Notes:

This pattern is worked in the round from the brim up. Your tension must be loose in order for your hook to go through each stitch. You will not ch 1 or sl st at the end of each round. You will work through the post of each & every sc around to build your beanie to the desired height. Use a stitch marker at the beginner of each round to ensure the proper stitch count. When changing from mc to cc colors, it is best to use the carry your colors method so that you avoid cutting & having many tails to weave in later on. (This pattern has not been tested. Please feel free to message me so I can help with any questions you have.)

FO and leave a long tail. Using your tapestry needle weave in & out between the stitches. Pull tight and secure.

Pom-Pom Maker

Using your Pom-Pom Maker wind your yarn evenly around the arch. Your Pom-Pom thickness is determined on how much yarn you wind up. When you’re done close it & then repeat on the other arch of your maker. Push both of your arches together & cut up the center of the arches of your Pom-Pom Maker. Cut some yarn and tie up the center of the arches and tightly secure it with a knot. I repeat this back & forth until I feel its secure enough to tie it in one last knot. Leave a long tail & with your tapestry needle sew your Pom-Pom to the top of your beanie. Now take a pic with the flash & watch it light up!
