Mini Glow-in-the-Dark Ghosts! #spookyszn

BOO! It’s me, your next project 😉 These little mini ghosts use battery-operated candle tea-lights to bring more fun to your Halloween decor! (hint: scroll all the way down to see the magic happen….)

MATERIALS:

  • Amour Crochet 2.75mm Hook C
  • #3 Light Worsted Cotton Yarn (here, I’m using Hobbii Friends Cotton 8/8 which offers more structure than flimsy soft yarns).
    • White
    • A combination of any 2 contrast colors:
      • Pastel Green
      • Pastel Orange
      • Lavender
  • Coral-colored embroidery thread
  • 6 mm x 8 mm Oval Safety Eyes
  • Mini Patchworks Scissors 
  • Stitch Markers
  • Yarn Needle
  • Hot Glue
  • Small amount of stuffing for the hat (the ghost body will not be stuffed!)
  • Color-changing tea lights

TERMS:

  • We will be working in a spiral.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: 4 in. x 2.5 in. [10 cm x ~6 cm] if using the prescribed materials.

 

PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS:

GHOST (white yarn):

Round 1: Make a magic circle and (sc) x7 [7]

Round 2: (inc) x7 [14]

Round 3: (sc, inc) x7 [21]

Round 4: (sc, inc, sc) x7 [28]

Round 5-9 (5 rnds total): sc all around [28]

We will create the two bobbles for the arms in the next rnd. bo yarn over, insert hook into stitch, yarn over, draw loop back through stitch, yarn over and pull through 2 loops. Repeat this 5 more times until you have 7 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all 7 loops.

Round 10: bo, 11 sc, bo, 15 sc [28]

Round 11: (3 sc, inc) x7 [35]

Round 12-16 (5 rnds total): sc all around [35]

Round 17: (slst, 3 dc, sc) x7 [35]

Use the invisible finish and leave a tail for weaving in.

 

FACIAL FEATURES:

Mouth: Cut 8 inches [~20 cm] of coral embroidery thread. Create a v-shaped mouth between rnds 6-7, 2 sts wide. Tie the yarn tails on the inside of the ghost body.

Eyes: Insert the oval safety eyes 1 st away from each side of the mouth. Keep them aligned.

 

WITCH HAT (start in cc1 of your choice):

Round 1: Make a magic circle and (sc) x3 [3]

Round 2: (inc) x3 [6]

Round 3: (sc, inc) x3 [9]

Round 4: (sc, inc, sc) x3 [12]

Round 5-6 (2 rnds total): sc all around [12]

Change to cc2. Do not fasten off cc1. 

Round 7: sc around [12]

Change to cc1 and cut the yarn on cc2. 

Round 8: (flo) – (sc, inc) x6 [18]

Round 9: (sc, inc, sc) x6 [24]

Round 10: (3 sc, inc) x6 [30]

Use the invisible finish and leave a tail for weaving into the brim. Lightly stuff the hat and bend the tip to give it some shape.

Use hot glue (only on the center) to secure the hat onto the head. You can tilt it and glue it down at an angle for a cuter look! 

Lastly, place the color-changing tea lights under the ghosts for an extra spook-tastic decor piece!
