Velvet Plaid Blanket with Tassels – Crochet Pattern

Hi again everyone!  I’m Amanda Saladin from Love.Life.Yarn and I am really excited to share this project with you today.  I love making all sorts of things with yarn and when Clover asked me to design something using the Clover Tassel Maker, I was all in!  I finally settled on a transitional blanket that can cover many seasons with tassels on the ends.

Tassels are very popular in home decor and you can find them on blankets, pillows, curtains and more this year.  This was my first time adding tassels to a blanket and, let me tell you, I will definitely be doing it again!  Plus, the Clover Tassel Maker is so easy and quick to use – I made all four of my tassels in less than half an hour!

When I first heard about velvet yarn, I was unsure if I wanted to try it.  I thought it was a trend that would soon be out and decided not to use it.  But when my son, Christian, and I were at JoAnn and he felt the velvet yarn, he insisted I give it a go.  I’m so glad I did!  I’ve designed a sweater and mittens (both knit and crochet versions) with it and love it so much!  I can’t quit snuggling this blanket!  You can find the other velvet patterns for free on my blog, too!

I love to use blankets not only to warm up in, but also as home decor.  You can find them in baskets, draped over pillows, and more at my house.  Plus, with four little boys running around, it’s nice for them to be able to stop and unwind by grabbing a blanket and snuggling up on the couch.  Don’t you think the tassels really make it?

In the tutorial video, I will walk you through how to crochet the blanket (don’t be intimidated by changing colors!) as well as making and attaching the tassels.  Since this yarn is so plush and chunky, the blanket works up super quickly and the only stitch you need to know is single crochet.

If you head over to the post on my blog, you can find the full written pattern in three sizes so you can customize your blanket – and, if you like, you can pick up an ad-free pdf of this pattern on Etsy or Ravelry, for those of you who like to have a clean copy to print.  You can also find more pictures of this project.  We had such a fun time styling this thing!  I really think you will love this blanket – I know I do!

I hope you enjoy this fun fall project and find a new love of tassels!
