Trapeze Dress Pattern Drafting Tutorial with SewingJulie

By Julie Gobere | Sewing Julie

Hello Darlings!

My name is Julie and I am the creator of Sewing Julie. I am a passionate seamstress and I love everything sewing related.

Today I would like to share with you my latest tutorial on how to draft a pattern for a trapeze dress – a perfect dress for a hot summer day.

Pattern drafting is one of the key elements that can take your sewing to the next level, as knowing how to make your own patterns will allow you to create any design you want, recreate a look from a photo, and also get better fit with commercial patterns – once you have the basics of how the pattern is made, alterations became much more easy and clear. If you have never made a pattern before, this trapeze dress is a good place to start – the pattern is easy, yet fun to make, and the dress itself looks stunning.

For this tutorial, you will need all essential pattern drafting tools: craft paper, pencil, measuring tape, long ruler, and the Curve Ruler Set by Clover which includes a French Curve, Hip Curve, and a Mini Ruler.

I like that the rulers are transparent, which makes it easy to mark lines, add new details or draw seam allowance. Plus, these rulers are flexible and made from high quality plastic, which means they will last a lifetime. Last but not least, a cute detail is that the Curve Ruler Set comes in a clear pouch, so that you can store the rulers neatly and safely in one place.

Now that you have all the tools prepared, it’s time for the tutorial!
