Clover Macrame Plant Hanger Gauge Giveaway

By Tamara Kelly | Moogly Blog

Have you noticed? Macrame is everywhere lately! From craft blogs to Pinterest to all the shopping sites – heck, it’s been selling like crazy at my local plant store. Right in time, Clover has come up with a new tool set to make this craft easier to try than ever – the Macrame Plant Hanger Gauge! I was eager to give it a whirl myself – and share one with one lucky winner on Moogly!

Disclaimer: This post was sponsored by Clover USA but all opinions are my own.

I had never tried macrame before – but having been born in the 70’s, I knew what the end result was supposed to look like! Like all fiber arts, it’s been gaining (and regaining!) in popularity – both as a craft, and as a finished item to purchase. But hey, we’re the crafty ones, so we have to make our own, right?

Clover has gotten into the macrame game with their new Macrame Plant Hanger Gauge. The Gauge package itself includes lots of instructions, a Wonder Clip for securing the cords to the gauge, and 2 gauges that allow you to measure from 1″ to 10″ (and I found a way to measure 1/2″ too – see below for that!).

Plant hangers are *the* iconic macrame project, which makes them a great project to learn with. And they were kind enough to send me some supplies along with the gauge so I could figure it out for myself!

I learned several new knotting skills – and why a gauge is important! I can’t imagine trying to make these knots even without one!

Of course, after you’ve finished the plant hanger you’ve got the skills to try other patterns – and the gauge to make them all easier! Or at least beginner skills… but that’s where we all start any new craft right? I think mine turned out pretty well!

After that initial success, I had to keep going – but I wanted to try it on a whole different scale. So I used the same instructions, just cutting all the measurements in half. And instead of thick macrame cording, I used Red Heart Nylon Crochet Thread! But what did I do when I needed a gauge measurement of only 1/2 inch? Turns out the little arms that stick out for each measurement are 1/2″ thick – perfect!

And voila! It’s a little trickier with thinner cording, but I love it! I can tell I need practice, but I really enjoyed learning the basics of macrame – and I can tell you the Clover Macrame Gauge made it *soooo* much easier! With the thicker cord the clip didn’t seem as important, but with the Red Heart Nylon, I put it to good use for sure.

I’m sure with time and practice macrame will get easier and easier for me – it’s already fun and surprisingly relaxing! The instructions included with the Clover Macrame Plant Hanger Gauge are easy to read and follow, and it made for a great couple of evenings!
