Embroidery with Kids
Happy Friday! It’s Cheri here from Tinkinstitches embroidery. I know the art of embroidery has taken hold for a lot of people especially while coping with lockdown measures and wanting to try something new with all our newly found free time. Giving ourselves something to create while having a product in the end that we’re able to be proud of is wonderfully fulfilling. Teaching kids to create with their hands gives them the skillsets for future handcrafts and sustainability while also teaching them amazing lessons in learning new things, working…

Watch Us Wednesdays-Yo-Yo Makers
Lions, Elephants, and Ladybugs! Watch as Nancy Zieman and guest Donna Fenske make adorable appliqué critters with our Yo-Yo Makers. Traditionally, Yo-Yos are hand sewn with a scrap piece of fabric. Nancy and Donna show you that Clover’s Yo-Yo Makers cut the time in half and you will always end up with uniformed results. Use them to embellish purses, backpacks, garments and more. Clover’s quick and easy Yo-Yo Makers come in a range of sizes and shapes, such as hearts, flowers, and butterflies! [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bhg0xOj25fM]

You thread the beads or sequins using our needle threader before you begin, and work the tool from the backside of the fabric while working the beads from the front. The results are stunning. Fran Ortmeyer introduces the tools and process in this brief video:

Friday Finds – Yo-Yo Maker Inspiration
The fabric yo-yo had humble beginnings as a way to turn scrap fabric into beautiful embellishments with a bit of hand stitching. It’s been translated into so much more over the years. You’ll now see them stuffed and turned into beads in jewelry or stacked together to create trees and all sorts of critters. You’ll also see the fabrics used have expanded from cotton and calicos to include silk, wool, velvet, and chiffon. Clover has a line of reusable templates that snap together with stitching guides to make the process…
