Kaleidoscope Water Bottle Holder

It’s time to free up your hands. This crochet water bottle holder pattern gives you a stylish and practical way to carry your bottle when you’re running errands, going on a trip or picnic, or even watching your kids play sports. This handcrafted bottle carrier comes in two sizes. It is washable, reusable, and environmentally friendly. Create one in each of your loved ones’ favorite colors!

The water bottle holder begins with a circle that serves as its base. It is crocheted in rounds, with alternating colors (a single color works well, too) from the bottom up. The base is made up of alternating rows of single and double crochet stitches, followed by the eye-catching crochet stitch pattern for the main body. A couple of rounds of single crochet are used to finish the top edge. The strap is made with a single crochet stitch and securely attached to the bottle holder. Ready to make this bottle holder? MATERIALS:

• Clover Amour Crochet Hook G (4 mm) (or size to obtain gauge)
• Clover Darning Needle (bent point)
• Clover Patchwork Mini Scissors
• Clover Quick-Locking Stitch Marker
• tape measure
• cotton yarns: DK weight (3) – 2 contrasting colors

NOTES:

• read the pattern carefully before starting.
• * repeat the instructions following the single asterisk as directed.
• ( ) – work instructions within parentheses as many times as directed, or work a group of stitches all in the same stitch or space.
• the numbers at the end of the row indicate the number of stitches in each row/round.
• when working fpdc, be sure to draw it up high enough so it does not pull on the rows below.
• gauge: 9 sts x 7 rounds = 2”, see pattern below
• skill level: adventurous beginner to intermediate
• finished measurement: Bottle 1: about 6” height x 9” circumference, flat lay—excluding the strap. Bottle 2: about 9” height x 10” circumference, flat lay—excluding the strap.

  • Start your work without a chain. Insert your hook into the 1^st stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, and pull through both loops. Locate the left vertical leg (or front bar) of the single crochet you just made. Insert your hook under that left leg, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, and pull through both loops. This replaces the traditional turning chains (chain 3) for double crochet.

KALEIDOSCOPE WATER BOTTLE HOLDER CROCHET PATTERN:

BASE

• Round 1: With Color 1, start with a mr. Ch 1 (does not count as a st throughout), 8 sc into the ring. PM in 1^st st. Pull the yarn tail tightly to close the ring. Slst in 1^st st to join. Drop Color 1 (do not fasten off) and attach Color 2 in 1^st st. 8 sts
• Round 2: (Stsc, 1 dc) in 1^st st, 2 dc in each st around. Slst in 1^st st to join. Drop Color 2 and pick up Color 1. 16 sts
• Round 3: Ch 1, 2 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in next st, *2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st; rep from * around. Slst in 1^st st to join. Drop Color 1 and pick up Color 2. 24 sts
• Round 4: (Stsc, 1 dc) in 1^st st, 1 dc in next 2 sts, *2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next 2 sts; rep from * around. Slst in 1^st st to join. Drop Color 2 and pick up Color 1. 32 sts
• Round 5: Ch 1, 2 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in next 3 sts, *2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next 3 sts; rep from * around. Slst in 1^st st to join. Drop Color 1 and pick up Color 2. 40 sts. For Bottle 1, stop here and continue with the Body.
• Round 6: (Stsc, 1 dc) in 1^st st, 1 dc in next 4 sts, *2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next 4 sts; rep from * around. Slst in 1^st st to join. Drop Color 2 and pick up Color 1. 40, 48 sts
• Round 7: Ch 1, 1 sc in each st around. Slst in 1^st st to join. Drop Color 1 and pick up Color 2. 40, 48 sts

 

BODY

• Round 1: Stsc in 1^st st, dc in next 2 sts, ch 1, sk next st, *dc in next 3 sts, ch 1, sk next st; rep from * around. Drop Color 2 and pick up Color 1. 40, 48 sts
• Round 2: Ch 1, 1 sc in 1^st st and in next 2 sts, 1 dc in skipped st 2 rows below, *sc in next 3 sts, 1 dc in skipped st 2 rows below; rep from * around. Slst in 1^st st to join. Drop Color 1 and pick up Color 2. 40, 48 sts

• Round 3: Rep Round 1.
• Round 4: Ch 1, 1 sc in 1^st st and in next 2 sts, 1 fpdc around dc st 2 rows below, *sc in next 3 sts, 1 fpdc around dc st 2 rows below; rep from * around. Slst in 1^st st to join. Drop Color 1 and pick up Color 2. 40, 48 sts

For Bottle 1

• Rounds 5 – 16: Rep Rounds 3 and 4. Do not change yarn color after Round 16. Fasten off Color 2 and weave in the end. Continue working with Color 1. Proceed to Top Edge pattern.

For Bottle 2

• Rounds 5 – 26: Rep Rounds 3 and 4. Do not change yarn color after Round 26. Fasten off Color 2 and weave in the end. Continue working with Color 1. Proceed to Top Edge pattern.

 

BODY TOP EDGE

• Rounds 17 – 18 / 27 – 28: Ch 1, 1 sc in 1^st st and in each st around. Slst in 1^st st to join. 40, 48 sts
• Fasten off Color 1. Continue with the strap pattern.

 

STRAP

• Attach Color 2 in the 1^st st, PM in the 21^st (Bottle 1) and 25^th (Bottle 2) st for the placement of the strap.

 

• Row 1 (RS): Ch 1, 1 sc in 1^st st and in next 4 sts. Turn. 5 sts
• Row 2 (WS): Ch 1, 1 sc in 1^st st and in each st across. Turn. 5 sts

 

• Rep Row 2 until your strap measures about 35–40” (Bottle 1) or 40 – 50” (Bottle 2), or to your desired length, ending with the RS. Fasten off, leaving a long yarn tail for sewing the strap to the holder.
• Thread the yarn tail into your tapestry needle. Make sure your strap is not twisted. Whip stitch the strap to the holder, beginning at the marked stitch and continuing until you reach the end of the strap.
  • This is optional, but I recommend whip stitching twice in each stitch to provide a secure attachment. See photos below:

• Fasten off and weave in the ends.
