Spam musubi is a beloved Hawaiian snack and lunch favorite. It’s made with a slice of grilled or pan-fried Spam placed on top of a block of sticky white rice, then wrapped together with a strip of roasted seaweed (nori). Simple and tasty!

MATERIALS:
- Clover Amour Hook (7 mm)
- Clover Patchwork Scissors (small)
- Clover Stitch Markers
- Clover Yarn Needle
- #6 super bulky yarn – premier basix chenille
- 1 skein of hot coral (peach) – 27 g
- 1 skein of white – 32 g
- black felt – 2 x 13 in. [~5 cm x ~33 cm]
- fiberfill stuffing
- hot glue gun
- UHU glue
- two 12 mm x 16 mm oval safety eyes
- dark green embroidery thread
NOTES:

- The pattern is worked in an oval spiral and a rectangle spiral.
- Difficulty: intermediate+
- Measurements: 4 in. x 6 in. [~10 cm x ~15 cm] if crocheting using yarn under, yarn over (YUYO) and using the recommended materials.

SPAM MUSUBI PATTERN:
RICE:
Using white yarn with a 7 mm Clover Amour Hook:
- Round 1: make a slipknot and ch 6, work into the second ch from the hook, sc into the next 4 ch, make 3 sc into the next ch, turn and work along the bottom of the ch, sc into the next 3 ch, inc into last ch and slst into the first st of the rnd [12]
- Note: The new rnd starts after the slst.
- Round 2: (3 sc, 3 inc), repeat [18]
- Round 3: (3 sc, [sc, inc] x3), repeat [24]
- Rounds 4-10 (7 rounds total): sc all around [24]
- Round 11: (3 sc, [sc, dec] x3), repeat [18]
Insert the safety eyes between rnds 1-2, 6 sts apart. Then, cut 6 in. [~15 cm] of dark green embroidery thread and embroider a smile 2 sts wide, centering it between the eyes.
Stuff.
- Round 12: (3 sc, 3 dec) x3, repeat [12]
Fasten off and leave a tail for closing up the piece.
Flatten the opening so that it is parallel with round 1. Using the Clover yarn needle, whipstitch the opening closed. Weave in the remaining yarn tail.
SPAM (make two):
In hot coral yarn and with a 7 mm Clover Amour Hook:
- Round 1: make a slipknot and ch 6, work into the second ch from the hook, sc into the next 4 ch, make 3 sc into the next ch, turn and work along the bottom of the ch, sc into the next 3 ch, inc into the last ch and slst into the first st of the rnd. [12]
- Note: The new rnd starts after the slst.
- Round 2: (3 sc, 3 sc into the next st, sc, 3 sc into the next st), repeat [18]
- Round 3: (4 sc, 3 sc into the next st, 3 sc, 3 sc into the next st, sc), repeat [28]
- Round 4: (5 sc, 3 sc into the next st, 5 sc, 3 sc into the next st, 2 sc), repeat [36]
For the first piece, fasten off and leave a short yarn tail. For the second piece, fasten off and leave an 24 in. [~61 cm] yarn tail for sewing.
ASSEMBLY:
- Step 1: Hold the two pieces together with the right sides facing outward.
- Step 2: Using the Clover yarn needle, whipstitch through the blo of the piece closer to you and the flo of the piece further from you.
- Step 3: Do not stuff the spam. With the remaining yarn tail, sew the spam to the rice.
- Step 4: Measure a 2 x 13 in. [~5 cm x ~33 cm] rectangle out of black felt and cut it out for the nori (seaweed).
- Step 5: Add a dab of hot glue onto the top of the spam and secure the nori onto it.
- Step 6: Tightly wrap the nori around the bottom of the spam and add hot glue where the edges overlap.
