Basic Mini Crossbody Bag <3

Hello! My name is Duana from ‘Duana Studio’ (@duana_m_chandler on IG)! I am normally huge on sewing, but decided that with the weather getting cooler, it’s time to bring out the yarn. Crocheting your own accessories can be a wonderfully creative and fulfilling hobby. And one of the most versatile and fashionable items you can make is a crossbody bag! I love crossbody bags because I can carry small things in it, whether it be my AirPods, chapstick, etc. It’s perfect for a quick run to the store or going on a walk. Whether you’re a crochet beginner or a seasoned pro, this DIY project is perfect for anyone looking to add a personal touch to their style. In this blog post, I’ll guide you through the process of crocheting a basic crossbody bag. So let’s get started! 🙂

MATERIALS:

Create a slip knot using three pieces of yarn at a time (I do this for thickness).

Then, create a foundation chain. The length of the chain should be the width of your bag. I did 13 chains, but you can do more or less. Keep in mind that the chain will stretch slightly, so make it a bit shorter than your desired width.

Crochet about 20 rows of single crochet stitches (sc) into the second chain from the hook.

Keep crocheting rows of single crochet stitches until your work reaches the desired 2x the height for your bag.

Fold your crocheted piece in half, with the right sides facing each other.

Crochet a long strap for your bag. I did roughly 60 chains, but I lost count. You can use a simple chain stitch or a more intricate stitch pattern, depending on your preference. Attach the strap to the sides of the bag very securely!

Use your yarn needle to sew the sides of the bag together. Attach straps as you meet the end of the bag.

This yarn I chose is fabulous! In the future, you can use 3 different color skeins to add a different pattern. Crocheting your own bags allows you to express your creativity while staying eco-friendly and fashionable. It’s also perfect for not having to buy a new colored bag to match the new season – you can just create your own by using different colors for each holiday/time of year! So grab your yarn and crochet hook, and start crafting your own crochet crossbody bag today! 🙂
