My Bella Shawl- Crochet Pattern

Hi friends! Elisa of Strings and Cuddles is here again for another crochet pattern! Woo hoo!

I am so grateful to have friends in our yarn community who blessed me with their yarns. Their trust and support inspire me to continue creating beautiful pieces. One of these beautiful people who believe in me is my friend, Rena, from Rena’s Thread and Crafts. She has provided this gorgeous gradient yarn that I used to crochet my new shawl. Now, allow me to introduce my newest shawl pattern — My Bella Shawl! If you have been following me, you may have known now that I love designing triangle-shaped shawls using gradient fingering yarn. My shawl pattern designs are simple and easy, and with gradient-colored yarn, they always look stunning! My Bella Shawl is a blast to create as it has only a ONE-row repeat pattern. You may have to learn the X-Shaped Treble Crochet or known as the Crochet X Stitch, but my version has chain 2 in between compared to 1 chain.

With no delay, let’s get started!

MY BELLA SHAWL

– CROCHET PATTERN –

SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate

MATERIALS

• Fingering Weight (#1) Yarn. I used Rena’s Thread and Crafts Gradient Cotton in Artichoke (Approximately 1,400 yards, 10 oz / 9.5-10.5 oz / 270- 300 grams)
• Clover Amour Crochet Hook 3.5 mm- Art No. 1043/E
• Clover Patchwork Scissors- Art No. 493/CW
• Clover Quick Locking Stitch Markers- Art No. 3031
• Clover Chibi with Jumbo Darning Needle-Art No. 3121
• Tape Measure

GAUGE: 24 sts X 6 rows = 4 inches

GAUGE PATTERN: Note: X-TR counts as 3 sts.

Row 1: Ch 26, skip 4 chs, X-TR starting in the 5^th ch, *DC in the next sts, X-TR*; Rep from * to * to the last ch, TR in the last ch. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 3, 3 DC in the ch-2-sp, *X-TR. 3 DC in the ch-2-sp*; Rep from * to * to the last st, DC in the last st. Turn.

Row 3: Ch 4, X-TR, *DC in the next sts, X-TR*; Rep from * to * to the last ch, TR in the last ch. Turn.

Row 4 – 6: Rep Rows 2 to 3 ending with Row 2.

 

FINISHED MEASUREMENT: Approximately 70 (width) x 39 (depth)

STITCHES AND ABBREVIATIONS | US Terminology

• Ch(s) – Chain(s)
• DC – Double Crochet
• MR – Magic Ring
• PM – Place Marker
• Rep – Repeat
• TR – Treble Crochet
• SC – Single Crochet
• Sk – Skip
• Sp(s) – Space(s)
• St(s) – Stitch(es)

SPECIAL STITCHES

X-Shaped Treble Crochet (X-TR) – X-shaped Treble Crochet with chain 2 in between. This stitch is worked over 3 stitches. Yarn over the hook twice, insert the hook in the next stitch (first of 3 stitches), and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops on the hook (3 loops on the hook). Yarn over the hook once, skip 1 stitch (middle of 3 stitches), insert hook in the next stitch (last of 3 stitches), pull up a loop, [yarn over and pull through 2 loops] 4 times. Now chain 2, yarn over once and insert the hook into the middle of the X-shaped treble crochet, pull up a loop, [yarn over and pull through 2 loops] twice to complete the X-Shaped Treble Crochet stitch.

Crossed Treble Crochet (CTR) – Crossed Treble Crochet with chain 2 in between. This stitch is worked over 3 stitches. Skip 2 stitches, Treble Crochet in the next stitch, chain 2, going back behind the Treble Crochet just made, work the second Treble Crochet into the first one of the 2 skipped stitches.

NOTES

1. Read the pattern carefully before starting.
2. flat in back-and-forth rows.
3. * * repeat instructions between asterisks as many times as directed or repeat at specified locations.
4. ( ) work instructions within parentheses as many times as directed or work a group of stitches all in the same stitch or space.
5. [ ] work instructions within brackets as many times as directed.
6. I recommend using a stitch marker to mark the first stitch of each row so you will not miss it. Remember to move the stitch marker as you progress.
7. You can choose any color(s) and yarn weight you may like, but remember to adjust your crochet hook and the amount of yarn (yardage) needed to complete your shawl.

 

PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS

Start with a MR.

Row 1: Ch 3 (counts as 1 DC), PM in 1^st st, 3 DC in the ring, ch 3 (this will mark as the center ch-sp throughout), 4 DC in the ring and pull tight the yarn tail to close the ring. Turn. 

Row 2: Ch 4 (counts as 1 TR throughout), 3 TR in the 1^st st, X-TR, (3 DC, ch 3, 3 DC) in the center ch-sp, X-TR, 4 TR in the last st. Turn.

Row 3: Ch 4, 3 TR in the 1^st st, X-TR, 3 DC in the ch-2-sp, X-TR, (3 DC, ch 3, 3 DC) in the center ch-sp, X-TR, 3 DC in the ch-2-sp, X-TR, 4 TR in the last st. Turn.

Row 4: Ch 4, 3 TR in the 1^st st, *X-TR, 3 DC in the ch-2-sp*; Rep from * to * to the last 3 sts before the center ch-sp, X-TR in the last 3 sts before the center ch-sp, (3 DC, ch 3, 3 DC) in the center ch-sp; Rep from * to * to the last 4 sts, X-TR, 4 TR in the last st. Turn.

>>> Rep Row 4 until your desired shawl size and then proceed to the edging pattern. <<<

Note: I worked up to Row 40 before adding my Edging.

 

EDGING PATTERN

Row 41: Ch 4, 3 TR in the 1st st, *TR in the next 3 sts, 3 TR in the next ch-2-sp*; Rep from * to * to the last 3 sts before the center ch-sp, TR in the next 3 sts, (3 TR, ch 3, 3TR) in the center ch-sp; Rep from * to * to the last 4 sts, TR in the next 3 sts, 4 TR in the last st. Turn.

Row 42: Ch 6 (counts as 1 TR + 2 chs), (TR, ch 2, TR) in the 1^st st, CTR to the center ch-sp, [(TR, ch 2) 4 times, TR] in the center ch-sp, CTR to the last st, [(TR, ch 2) 2 times, TR] in the last st. Turn.

Row 43: Ch 1, SC in the 1^st st, [(2 SC, ch 3, 2 SC) in the ch-2-sp, SC in the next st] 2 times, *SC in the next st, (2SC, ch 3, 2SC) in the ch-2-sp, SC in the next st*; Rep from * to * to the 1^st TR st of the center ch-sps, [SC in the next st, (2 SC, ch 3, 2 SC) 4 times, SC in the last TR st of the center ch-sps; Rep from * to * to the last 2 ch-2-sps, [(2 SC, ch 3, 2SC) in the ch-2-sp, SC in the next st] 2 times to end.
