4th of July Rainbow- Crochet Pattern
I always love a good DIY holiday decor project. I used chunky blanket yarn to create this extra large summery rainbow wall hanging. You can use any colors you choose but I opted for a 4th of July theme with red, white, blues, and pink.
Materials:
- 9.0 mm Clover Amour hook- Art No. 1056/MN
- Clover Darning Needle Set- Art No. 340
- Scissors- Art No. 493/CW
- Poly-fil fiber fill stuffing
- 5 blanket yarn colors of your choice. I used a mix of Bernat Blanket yarn and Big Twist Plush.
Notes: This pattern is worked in a round. After each round you will join and attach a new color. When tying off and attaching new color, leave long yarn tails. We will use these as part of our tassels later. Chain 2 will always count as a stitch.
Stitches: Chain (ch), single crochet (sc), double crochet (dc), an slip stitch (ss)
Round 1: Chain 2, and in the second chain from the hook, make 14 double crochets. Tie off, leave a long yarn tail, and attach a new color.
Round 2: Chain 2 and dc in the same stitch as ch2, make 2 dcs in each stitch around (you should have 28 stitches), and join. Tie off and add a new color.
Round 3: Chain 2, dc in the same stitch as ch2, and make 1 dc in the next stitch. *Make 2 dcs in one stitch, and 1 dc in the next*, repeating the asterisks all the way around (43), and join. Attach a new color.
Round 4: Chain 2, dc in the same stitch as ch2, and make 1 dc in the next 2 stitches. *Make 2 dcs in one stitch, and 1 dc in the next 2 stitches* repeating the asterisks all the way around (56) and join, and add a new color.
Round 5: Chain 2, dc in the same stitch as ch2, and make 1 dc in the next 3 stitches. *Make 2 dcs in one stitch, and then 1 dc in the next 3 stitches* repeating the asterisk all the way around (70) and join. **Do NOT tie off.
Fold the circle in half making a rainbow shape. Make sure the leftover yarn tails are on the OUTSIDE. Also make sure the spot you left off is at the bottom right side of the rainbow. Use your hook to single crochet the rainbow closed, pausing to stuff with a little bit of fiber fill. Do not overstuff. Use just enough to “inflate” the rainbow a bit. Finish closing up the open end. Fasten off, and leave a long tail.
Add tassels to each end of the rainbow rows by cutting 4 strands for each corresponding colored row in about 16 inch increments. Insert the yarn strands into each end of the row, pulling through and doubling up so that there are now 8-9 strands. Make sure to include those long yarn tails from earlier. Tie off with a loop knot. Trim the pieces as necessary
Add a yarn loop and knot to the back of the rainbow to create a hanger, and you’re done!
