Beanie Baby Blanket-Crochet Pattern

Hellloooo! It’s Laura from LCK Crochet and I am back on the Clover blog to share the Beanie Baby Blanket crochet pattern!

This blanket is perfect for a new addition to the family, house warming gift, special birthday present, and everything in between. It is worked up using just bean stitches and has the most delicious texture and drape. You can either follow the color changes provided, make up your own stripe pattern or go for a solid blanket! The opportunities are endless 🙂

Materials

– Clover Amour 6.0mm hook- Art No. 1049/J
– #3 DK light weight yarn in 4 colors

Lion Brand Comfy Cotton Blend – Mochacino (690 yards)

Lion Brand Comfy Cotton Blend – Gray (610 yards) Bernat Softee Cotton – Feathered Gray (522 yards) Bernat Softee Cotton – Cotton (178 yards)

– Measuring Tape
– Scissors
– Clover Darning Needle Set- Art No. 339

Abbreviations

– ch – chain
– sc – single crochet – slst – slip stitch
– sk – skip
– sp – space
– rs – right side
– ws – wrong side
– st – stitch

Notes

– Finished blanket measures 40″ x 60″ and is considered “toddler size”
– Pattern includes instructions for color changes that correspond to the sample photo, but you can always freestyle to add your own flare!
– Odd rows are worked on the right side and even rows are worked on the wrong side
– Edging is worked around the the right side of the blanket

Gauge

9 bean sts x 14 rows = 5×5″ square

Pattern for Gauge

ch 17 + 1 for turning ch
Row 1 (rs): turn, bean st in 2nd ch from hook, * ch 1, sk next ch, bean st into next st, repeat from * until last ch (9 beans)
Row 2 (ws): ch 1, turn, bean st in first ch 1 sp, * ch 1, sk bean st, bean st in next ch 1 sp, repeat from * across ending with a bean st in turning chain (9 beans)

Special Stitches

Bean Stitch – Insert hook into intended stitch and pull up a loop, yarn over and insert hook into the same stitch and pull up another loop, yarn over and pull through all 4 loops

Pattern

Chain 145 + 1 for turning ch

Row 1 (rs): turn, bean st in 2nd ch from hook, * ch 1, sk next ch, bean st into next st, repeat from * until last ch (73 beans)
Row 2 (ws): ch 1, turn, bean st in first ch 1 sp, * ch 1, sk bean st, bean st in next ch 1 sp, repeat from * across ending with a bean st in turning chain (73 beans)

Repeat Row 2 for a total of 168 rows

The following instructions indicate color changes to match the sample photo (COLOR A) – Brown Rows 3-20
(COLOR B) – Tan Rows 21-30
(COLOR C) – Cream Rows 31-34

(COLOR D) – Gray Rows 35-60 (COLOR A) – Brown Rows 61-72 (COLOR C) – Cream Rows 73-78 (COLOR B) – Tan Rows 79-100 (COLOR D) – Gray Rows 101-108 (COLOR C) – Cream Rows 109-110 (COLOR A) – Brown Rows 111-136 (COLOR C) – Cream Rows 137-138 (COLOR B) – Tan Rows 139-160 (COLOR D) – Gray Rows 151-168

Blanket edging

Attach (COLOR C) – Cream to the end of Row 168

Step 1: ch 1, turn, bean st in ch 1 sp, * ch 1, sk bean st, bean st in next ch 1 sp, repeat from * across, stopping before the last bean st in turning ch, ch 1, (bean st, ch 1, bean st) in turning ch

Step 2: turn clockwise, * ch 1, sk row, bean st in next open sp, repeat from * across, stopping before the last row, ch 1, (bean st, ch 1, bean st) in the corner if the last row

Step 3: turn clockwise, * ch 1, sk bean st, bean st in next ch 1 sp, repeat from * across, stopping before the last bean st, ch 1, (bean st, ch 1, bean st) in turning ch

Step 4: turn clockwise, * ch 1, sk row, bean st in next open sp, repeat from * across, stopping before the last row, ch 1, bean st in corner, ch 1, slst into first bean st from Step 1

Step 5: Fasten off and weave in all ends!
