• In order to help the rug lay flat after finishing and to make it more durable, Itrimmed a piece of fabric to size and sewed it to the back of the piece.
• I knit the rug and included the borders with the fair isle method and then added the wording in duplicate stitch afterwards.
• Small chart is included in this PDF and a larger version is available in an attached supplement.
• Duplicate stitch is a technique where you use the same or thicker yarn in a contrast color and embroider into the stitches already created; making a pattern over the top.
•  Duplicate stitch is a good way to make a pattern on finished objects without having to embed the pattern into your work and carry yarn throughout.
• To place your chart, add stitch markers on your work to mark the design before beginning. You may find it helpful to use an erasable fabric marker to mark the whole design on the rug before beginning.

Pattern

35” width x 16” height

Co 56 sts using the long tail cast on with 2 strands of super bulky yarn on 19 mm (US 35) circular knitting needles.

Bottom Border

Row 1 – CC, K all sts (56). Row 2 – CC, P all sts. Drop CC.

Body

Row 3 – MC, K all sts.
Row 4 – MC, P all sts.
Rows 5-30 – Repeat rows 3-4 fourteen times. Row 31 – Repeat row 3.

Top Border

Pick up CC.

Row 32 – CC, P all sts.

Row 33 – CC, K all sts.

Drop CC.

Row 34 – MC, P all sts

Bind off using method of choice with MC. I used the suspended bind-off method for a clean, stretchy edge.

Finishing

Weave in all ends.

Add duplicate stitch wording to the body.

Add tassels to the short edges.
