Jack-o-lantern Tote Bag- Crochet Pattern

Create this adorable pumpkin tote bag just in time for the Halloween season! This bag is the perfect accessory for any Halloween party or trick or treating. How much candy can you fit inside? The design of this bag is by Molly Uhl of Lou Loops Co. and the finished product measures 11×15. Now let’s get started!

Materials:

  • Clover Amour K (6.5mm)- Art No. 1053/K
  • Clover Amour I (5.5 mm) hook- Art No. 1048/I
  • Darning needle
  • Scissors
  • Medium-weight yarn in colors of your choice. ( Cotton yarn would be ideal, but I’m using I Love This Yarn in Desert Glaze, Lime, and Black.)

Stitches and Abbreviations:
Chain (ch), Chain 2 (ch2), Single Crochet (sc), Half Double Crochet (hdc), Double Crochet (dc), and Slip Stitch (ss)

Bag:
Row 1: Chain 31. Hdc in the second chain from the hook, and in each chain after
(30 hdcs).
Rows 2-54: Ch 2, turn your work, and hdc in each stitch across (30).
Row 55: Ch 1, turn, and sc in each stitch across (30). Fold your work in half as shown in the photo below.

Crochet the sides together using a single crochet, from top to bottom. When you reach the bottom of the bag, chain 1, turn your work, and create a slip stitch in each
single crochet, going back up the side of the bag. When you reach the top of the bag, working on the opposite side, make a single crochet in stitch across on that opposite side of the opening. Continue down the right side of the bag, single crocheting the sides together. When you reach the bottom, chain 1, turn, and slip stitch your way back up to the top. Your bag should now be sewn on 2 sides with an opening at the top. Weave in your ends.

Strap:
Row 1: Using Lime and the K hook, chain 49. Hdc in the second chain from the hook, and each stitch after (48 hdcs). Chain 2 and turn.
Rows 2-3: Hdc in each stitch across (48 hdc). Tie off. Attach the strap about an inch deep, to the insides of the bag. Use your orange yarn for sewing so that it will blend into the outside of the bag.
