Lacy Rock Sleeve- Crochet Pattern

Hello! It’s Jennifer Ryan, the designer and blogger behind Celtic Knot Crochet. I am excited to be sharing a rock cozy crochet project here on the Clover blog!

I have always loved collecting rocks ever since I was a little girl whenever I visit the ocean, a river or a lake. Now I love to cover many of these rocks with lacy crochet designs and add them to my outdoor décor in my garden.

This project is very quick to make and is an unexpected touch of the handmade amongst the flowers in your backyard.

And if you would like to brighten someone’s day, give the rock cozy to a friend to use as a paperweight or leave along a path out in your community for someone to find and take home.

This project does use a puff stitch and an adjustable ring so if you need some help with the Special Stitches, not to worry! I’ve created a step-by-step video tutorial that you can find on my Youtube Channel here: https://youtu.be/tJr9HBIdSAk

Let’s get started!

Skill Level: Easy

Supplies:

Size 3 or Size 10 Cotton crochet thread – 1 skein will make more than one cozy

2.75mm (C ) or 3.75mm (F) (to go with the Size 3 thread) and 1.5mm steel hook (to go with the Size 10 thinner thread) Clover crochet hooks

(If you have not used cotton crochet thread before, I highly recommend practicing this pattern with medium weight yarn from your stash and a size H crochet hook. I also recommend using the Size 3 thread which is thicker first after practicing with the medium weight yarn)

Tapestry needle

Round smooth rock – about 3” in diameter (or 5” for thicker yarn)

Finished Measurements: Round 1 – Round 6 is approximately 3” in diameter

Abbreviations:

YO (yarn over)

Hk (hook)

Lp (loop)

Ch (chain)

St (stitch)

Sp (space)

Sc (single crochet)

Hdc (half double crochet)

Dc (double crochet)

Sl st (slip stitch)

Special Stitches:

Adjustable Ring: Wrap yarn around hand to create a loop; pull working end of yarn through lp with hk; *Watch a short video tutorial of this technique here*

PUFF st = YO, insert hk into st, YO, draw up a loop ½” long) 5 times; YO, pull through 10 loops on hk; YO, pull through remaining 2 lps on hk

Dtr (double treble crochet) = YO 3 times; insert hk into st; YO, draw up a lp; (YO, pull through 2 lps on hk) 4 times

Notes:

Project is worked in the round

Photos show 2 options for this project using 2 different sizes of cotton crochet thread – using the thicker thread with the larger hook will best fit a larger rock
