Spring Songbirds Amigurumi- Crochet Pattern
Hi all! It’s Jillian Hewitt here, designer and crocheter over at Spin a Yarn Crochet. I am very excited to be here on the Clover blog with a new Spring amigurumi project for these delicate Spring Songbirds!
This amigurumi is unique in that it is not worked in the round, but rather is worked in flat panels which are then joined together and stuffed. It’s so fun to see the birds take shape as you add all the special details to the panels. These would make a fun addition to a Spring wreath, or even as a wall hanging. They look absolutely darling perched together on a branch looking over their shoulders at each other.
The yarn I used for this project is a 100% acrylic Light Worsted/DK (weight 3) yarn from Hobbii but feel free to substitute any yarn of choice. You can even make these birds bigger or smaller simply by using heavier yarn (worsted or bulky weight) or lighter (sport or fine weight) and adjusting your Clover hook. For this project, I used my Size C 2.75mm Clover Amour hook. It’s perfect for making the tight stitches that are required for amigurumi, while maintaining a comfortable grip. I’m not exaggerating when I say I have never made any of my amigurumi designs with anything other than my Clover Amour hooks!
Let’s get started!

Notes
- Bird is constructed by working two panels in rows and then crocheting around the panels to join them. Bird is then stuffed.
- Each panel is made up of a body portion and a face portion which are joined to create one panel.
- The wing is started by working into a magic ring and then is worked in turned rows. The wing is stitched onto the front panel before assembly of the panels.
- The beak is sewn on after assembly of the panels.
- The RS and WS for each panel will be the opposite from the other, allowing the panels to line up perfectly when placed together with WS facing.
- Ch 1 at the end of each row does not count as a stitch.
