Hi! I’m Ali, the crochet designer behind The Turtle Trunk! Today I’ll be sharing the Brecken Bag crochet pattern with you!
The Brecken Bag is the perfect tote for carrying around your wip and yarn when you’re on the go! This medium sized, crochet bag measures approximately 14” wide and 12” tall plus about 8” more for the handles, although you can adjust the length of the handles to be any length you’d like!
The Brecken Bag works up quickly since we’ll be using bulky yarn and a large crochet hook. It also only uses basic crochet stitches so it’s beginner friendly! This bag features a bold, main color and contrasting stripes. Feel free to use as many or few colors as you’d like! For yarn I used Lion Brand Yarn Hue + Me in the colors Mustard, Salt, and Werewolf.
I hope you enjoy this pattern! Be sure to check out my blog (www.theturtletrunk.com) and YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/c/theturtletrunk) for more free crochet patterns and video tutorials. Now let’s get making!

Before you start:
– This pattern is worked in the round. At the end of each round, join with a slip stitch to the top of the first stitch from the previous round then chain 1. Work your first stitch into the same stitch as the chain.
– Beginning chains do not count as stitches throughout the whole pattern.
– The number in parenthesis at the end of each round represents the total number of stitches to be worked in each round.
– Stitches between ** are to be repeated until the end of the round or until otherwise stated.
– After changing colors between B & C you can leave the previous color attached until there are no more color changes between the two. When you need to pick up that color again, just “float” the yarn up.

Changing colors
On the last stitch of the round before a color change, start the last stitch as normal, on the last pull through, drop your current color and pull through with the new color. Continue with the new color.
Back bump of the chain
When looking at the back of the chains, there will be a loop on the back that bumps out. For the straps, you will work into the back bump of the chains instead of through the top loop. This will create a sturdier handle and will also create a tidier edge.
