Yarn Cutter Necklace – Crochet Pattern

Hello! It’s Jennifer Ryan, the designer and blogger behind Celtic Knot Crochet.

I love to crochet projects that are quick and practical!

The Yarn Cutter Necklace is just that and you’ll love having it ‘on hand’ (really ‘around your neck’) to help your crocheting go faster – no more wasting time looking for your scissors that you lost in the couch!

This neat little gadget by Clover, the Yarn Cutter Pendant, works great for cutting your yarn with protected blades so it is 100% safe.  Plus, you can chose from 2 versions – one with beads and one without!

Let’s get started!

Skill Level: Easy

Supplies:

  • 1 ball Size 3 cotton crochet thread per necklace
    • (I used Lizbeth Size 3 in colors Azalea Med (620) & Ecru (603))
  • Amour Crochet Hook C (2.75mm) – Art. No 1041/C
  • Tapestry needle or embroidery needle with a large eye
  • Yarn Cutter Pendant (Antique Silver) – Art. No 3106
  • Tape Measure
  • Optional: 8mm pearl beads (34), matching sewing thread and sewing needle

Finished Measurements:  30” long x ¾” wide

Gauge is not necessary for this project

Abbreviations:

YO (yarn over)

Hk (hook)

Lp (loop)

Ch (chain)

St (stitch)

Sp (space)

Sl st (slip stitch)

Sc (single crochet)

Dc (double crochet)

Special Stitches:

2dc-CL (2 double crochet cluster) = YO, insert hk into st indicated, YO, draw up a lp, YO, pull through 2 lps on hk; YO, insert hk into same st, YO, draw up a lp, YO, pull through 2 lps on hk; YO, pull through all 3 lps on hk

3dc-CL (3 double crochet cluster) = [YO, insert hk into sp, YO, draw up a lp, YO, pull through 2 lps on hk] 3 times; YO, pull through all 4 lps on hk

Notes:

First 2 lengths are crocheted

Then beads are added if desired

Lastly the 2 lengths are joined while also attaching the pendant

Instructions:

Necklace Length – Make 2:

(All Special Stitches are in bold and italicized text and defined above)

Ch 5 – sl st in 5th ch from hk to form a ring

Row 1:  (Ch 3, 2dc-CL, ch 2, 3dc-CL) in ring. Turn.

This photo shows the 2-dc CL completed with the ch-2 after

This photo shows the 2dc-CL, ch-2 and 3dc-CL all completed

Row 2:  Ch 1, sl st in top of 1st cluster st and in ch-2 sp; (ch 3, 2dc-CL, ch 2, 3dc-CL) in same ch-2 sp. Turn.

This is what the wrong side of Row 1 looks like – you can see where to place the sl sts (shown by the black arrows)

Here the sl sts are completed and the ch-3 is stitched – Row 2 stitches will be worked into the ch-2 sp (between the 2 cluster stitches)

Repeat Row 2 until length measures approximately 15 inches

Here you can see Rows 1 & 2 completed

I repeated Row 2 until I had a total of 35 rows

Finishing:

Optional:

Wet block each length (Soak lengths with cold water and press out excess water in towel; Lay flat on towel and pull out stitches so extended and look best – you can use pins to help with this step – see photo above)

Let dry completely (overnight)

Adding Beads:

Using matching sewing thread and sewing needle, attach beads below every other ch-2 space – Weave thread through stitches carefully so it does not show

This photo shows where I hid the sewing thread inside the crocheted stitches

Depending on how big the holes are in your beads, you may be able to use the matching yarn to attach your beads – These pearl beads I used had small holes so I decided to use sewing thread and a small needle

Assembly:

With tapestry needle and yarn tails sew ch-5 ring (at the beginning of each length) closed

Thread on yarn cutter pendant and sew lengths together

With tapestry needle and yarn tails join last rows of lengths together passing needle and thread through ch-2 sps

Weave in ends

And there you have it – your Yarn Cutter Necklace is complete!
