Crochet Snowman Pattern

Hello! I’m Mary from MarysYarnBasket! If you’re like me and think snowmen are cute, but don’t want to go out into the cold and snow to build one, then give my crochet snowman pattern a try! It works up quick, is super cute and you can stay warm and cozy while you make it! You can also find the inexpensive pattern in a printable PDF version here

Abbreviations

(U.S. crochet terms)

ch – chain

sc – single crochet

MR – magic ring

sl st – slip stitch

dec – crochet two stitches together (decreasing)

inc – crochet two stitches into the same stitch (increasing)

BLO – crochet into the back loops only

FLO – crochet into the front loops only

*– repeat around (unless otherwise noted)

Materials

  • Amour Crochet Hook L (8.0 mm) – Art. No 1055/L
  • Scissors
  • Darning Needle Set – Art. No 339
  • Poly-fil stuffing
  • Hot glue gun
  • 15 mm safety eyes
  • 1 inch black buttons (2)
  • Bernat blanket yarn:
    • Moonlight sparkle
    • Carrot orange
    • Black
    • Crimson or Tuscan teal
    • 2 scraps of pink (blush)

This finished product will measure approximately inches 12 tall and 6 inches wide.

Head & Body (moonlight sparkle)

  1. sc 6 into a MR (6)
  2. inc* (12)
  3. sc, inc* (18)
  4. sc 2, inc* (24)
  5. sc 3, inc* (30)

6-8. sc around (30)

  1. sc 3, dec* (24)

Place safety eyes in-between rounds 6 and 7, approximately 3 stitches apart.

Embroider blush below the eye, approximately one stitch in width, going outwards. 

  1. sc 2, dec* (18)

Begin stuffing the head. Continue to stuff as you go.

  1. sc, dec* (12)

  4. sc 2, inc* (24)
  5. sc 3, inc* (30)
  6. sc 4, inc* (36)

17-20. sc around (36)

  1. sc 4, dec* (30)
  2. sc 3, dec* (24)
  3. sc 2, dec* (18)
  4. sc, dec* (12)
  5. dec* (6)

Fasten off and use a yarn needle to sew through each sc then pull shut. 

Nose (carrot orange)

  1. sc 4 into a MR (4)
  2. sc around (4)
  3. sc, inc* (6)

Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.

Sew the nose in-between the eyes of the snowman.

Hat (black)

  1. sc 6 into a MR (6)
  2. inc* (12)
  3. BLO sc around (12)

4-6. sc around (12)

  1. FLO sc, inc* (18)
  2. sc 2, inc* (24)

Fasten off. Weave in the tail.

Stuff the hat, keeping the top as flat as possible.

Place hot glue on the inner part of the hat, near the stuffing. Place on top of the snowman’s head and hold until the glue has cooled.

 

Scarf (crimson or tuscan blue)

  1. ch 40
  2. starting in the second ch from the hook, sc across.

Fasten off, if you wish to add fringe to the scarf, leave the beginning tail and ending tail. If not weave in your ends.

Scarf fringe

Cut 3 pieces of yarn twice as long as you want the fringe to be. Insert your hook in-between the two tails. Fold one yarn scrap in half and place on your hook and pull through. Lift the loop with your fingers and pull the ends of the yarn through it. Pull tight. Do this twice on the other side. Trim the fridge to desired length.

Hot glue the buttons to the belly and tie on the scarf.
