4th of July Crochet Heart

Hi everyone! I’m Julia from Little World of Whimsy, and I’m here to share a cute American Heart pattern, just in time for Independence Day!

This simple and sophisticated pattern is a cute depiction of the American Flag (you can also add French knots for the stars if you like), with blue on the left and red and white stripes on the right. You can get the inexpensive, beautifully formatted, printable PDF on Etsy here.

Materials

  • Clover Amour Crochet Hook D (3.25 mm) – Art. No 1042/D
  • WeCrochet Brava Sport (<1 skein of each color: Red, White, and Celestial (dark blue))
  • Mini Patchworks Scissors – Art. No 493/CW
  • Quick Locking Stitch Marker (Small) – Art. No 3030
  • Darning Needle Set (Bent Tip) – Art. No 3121
  • Fiberfill stuffing
  • (optional) Embroidery needle

Abbreviations

  • dec: decrease
  • inc: increase (2 scs in the same stitch)
  • MR: magic ring
  • rnd: round
  • sc: single crochet
  • st(s): stitch(es)
  • x sc: sc x number of times
  • (x sts): x total stitches in round/row
  • (…) x: repeat stitches within brackets x times

Technical Notes

  • Crochet in continuous spiral rounds, unless specified otherwise. Use a stitch marker or piece of yarn to keep track of the last stitch in each round.
  • .For this pattern, I made seamless color changes by following the technique in this video.
  • To learn how to change color in crochet, follow this video tutorial.
  • When filling with polyester stuffing, pull apart each large chunk into many smaller chunks. This ensures an even distribution of firmness within the amigurumi.
  • To avoid large holes in the crochet fabric, increase tension until the holes cannot be seen, or choose a crochet hook a size down.

Final Size

  • Approx. 2″ x 2″
Final size can be adjusted by changing the weight of the yarn and size of hook.

WHITE STARS (optional)
To create white dots to represent the stars on the American flag, embroider French knots spaced out evenly on the left half of the heart. See video tutorial here.
