Easy Liberty Scrunchies in Two Sizes – Sewing Project

Hi everyone! Faith Essenburg here and I am back with a quick and classic make; the Scrunchie. These little guys are just about the quickest thing to sew up and make fun little gifts and ways to show off a tiny bit of your favorite fabrics such as those special Liberty prints you’ve been saving.

What you’ll need:

Once you’ve chosen your fabric and the size scrunchie you want to make, use your ruler and rotary cutter to trim your fabric to size.

Next, fold your fabric in half lengthwise with right sides facing together and sew a 1/4 inch seam along the long raw edge.

Using a Wonder Pin, attach your length of elastic to one end and start to feed the pin through the inside of the tube.

Once you have all the fabric pulled over and the pin is exposed, take the other end of the elastic and attach it to the pin so you have a circle and your elastic doesn’t get lost in the tube.

Using a Fork Pin, overlap the two ends of the elastic by a half-inch and sew several lines going back and forth to secure them well. To close off the scrunchie, fold one end of the fabric in by 1/4 inch and insert the other end into it by less than a 1/2 inch. Lay your seam flat and sew a line to finish, making sure to go over it two to three times.

Finished! Once you have your supplies they take only about ten minutes to make. Choosing what fabric is the hardest part!

These itty bitty ones are perfect for littles with short fine hair and for tying off braids and they put a fun twist on the classic 80’s look.
