Grateful Table Runner – Crochet Pattern

Hi friends, Katlyn of Oak + Willow LLC here! I’m back with my friends here on the Clover blog for this fun table runner pattern!

With 2020 being such a crazy year, more of us are having Thanksgiving at home. I wanted to create a fun a quick design that you can make to dress up your table for that special dinner. This sweet sentiment is perfect for holiday meals or to display all year round.

This pattern is beginner friendly and the word is cross stitched on top after you’ve crocheted the table runner.

The Grateful Table Runner pattern is part of a bundle. The Thanksgiving bundle includes 5 designs to spruce up your table for the holidays. The bundle will be available November 5th on my Etsy shop.

I hope you love this pattern as much as I do! Until next time friends, happy making!

How to Make the FSC Stitch

Start with a slip knot and CH 2. Insert your hook into the first chain you made. Yarn over and draw up a loop.

Yarn over and pull through one loop.

Yarn over and pull through remaining 2 loops.

Insert your hook under the 2 loops of the “chain” portion that was made in the previous stitch. Yarn over and draw up a loop.

Yarn over and pull through 1 loop.

Yarn over and pull through remaining 2 loops. Continue this way until you reach your desired number of FSC stitches.

Pattern

With main color, FSC 139.

Row 2 (Wrong Side): CH 1 (does not count as stitch), SC in the first stitch and in each chain across, turn. (139 SC)

Row 2-38: CH 1, SC in the first stitch and in each stitch across, turn. (139 SC)

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Cross Stitch

Some helpful tips:

  • Each square on the chart counts as one “X” or one cross stitch.
  • You will be working an “X” over 2 rows of SC.
  • It’s best if you stitch the design from the top-down.
  • Be sure to make your “X” the same way every time so it looks neat and
    consistent.
  • Correct tension is key when cross stitching: Not too tight, not too loose.
  • Weave in ends as you normally would.

Instructions

Step 1: With black, cut a long piece (about 50″)

Step 2: Using a yarn needle, start with the top left stitch of the letter “G.” (As shown in Picture A.) From the top of the table runner, count down 10 rows. Your first “X” will be made over the 9th and 10th rows from the top. Skip the first 36 stitches (from the left). Make first “X” over the next stitch.

Note: Make sure you make your “X” the same way every time for a more consistent look.

Step 3: Following the chart, continue to cross stitch the letters on the table runner. See Picture B.

Step 4: When you are finished with a strand of yarn, weave in the ends on the back of your work as you normally would.

Step 5: When you are done with the design, fasten off and weave in all ends.
