Hi Everyone! I’m Ashley, the designer and maker behind The Loopy Lamb. I’m so excited to be back on the Clover blog again to share with you my latest crochet pattern to make this cute and fun amigurumi flamingo: Flikka Flamingo.
Flikka Flamingo is an adorable baby flamingo that is crocheted using faux fur yarn for his head body and wings and worsted weight acrylic yarn for his legs and beak. If you haven’t tried faux fur yarns before, I have a video with my top tips and tricks for working with this yarn. You can find it HERE. Faux fur yarn is incredibly forgiving and can give you an incredible end result with minimal effort.
With the addition of weighted pellets to the base of the toy, Flikka is capable of sitting up on his own to ask for treats. Adding weighted pellets are completely optional but it may make Flikka a little less stable when sitting on his own. I have a tutorial on how to create a weighted base for your amigurumi projects HERE.
This crochet flamingo pattern has been made using the amigurumi crochet technique. This means that crochet stitches have been used to create a stuffed animal.
Crocheting amigurumi can be tough on your hands if you don’t have a comfortable hook. For this design I used a 3.5mm Clover Amour crochet hook which is a really comfortable hook that works great for crocheting amigurumi toys. Locking Stitch Markers are used to keep track of each round in the pattern so make sure to have those handy as well.
