How to Make a Crochet Hemp Bowl (QUOE TIPS)
One thing I’ve been doing a lot of the past few weeks has been getting my house ready for the summertime.
A lot of that has to do with small DIY projects that get me in the right summery headspace. I just put up my hammock chair for the summer, and while swinging on it, I started thinking about what I needed to surround its space to make it more chic and modern. I came to one immediate decision, Succulents! Of course! But what to put them in? I’ve been wanting to try my hand at incorporating hemp rope into more structural crochet for a while, so this simple catch-all bowl was born.
Here’s what you need to make your own!
Supplies:
- Patchwork Scissors (Mini) – Art. No 493/CW
- Amour Hook Size G – Art. No 1045/G
- Sashiko Needles (Long) – Art. No 2009
- Locking Stitch Marker (Jumbo) – Art. No 3109
- Makers Mercantile Danika Undyed DK yarn (55% Cotton 16% Bamboo 8% Silk 21% Elastic Nylon; 280 yards per 100 gram hank)
- 1/4-Inch diameter 100 foot Natural Sisal or Hemp Rope
Finished Bowl Dimensions:
6’’ Diameter, 3.5’’ depth. Can be made larger or smaller.
Setup:
Begin by forming Slipknot of yarn and securing to end of Hemp Rope. Fasten tightly. Ch 1.
Increase Rounds
Round 1: SC 15 around hemp rope closely together.
Form ring with round one to bring first stitch of first round towards last stitch of the round.
Round 2: SC 2 sts in first st of last round, place marker on first stitch of round, sc 2 in each st around. 30 SC.
Move stitch marker up each round once first stitch is made.
Round 3: [SC 1 in next st, SC 2 in next st] fifteen times. 45 SC.
Round 4: [SC 1 in next 2 sts, SC 2 in next st] fifteen times. 60 SC.
Round 5: [SC 1 in next 3 sts, SC 2 in next st] fifteen times. 75 SC.
Round 6: [SC 1 in next 4 sts, SC 2 in next st] fifteen times. 90 SC.
Round 7: [SC 1 in next 5 sts, SC 2 in next st] fifteen times. 105 SC.
At this point, if you would like to make a larger bowl, continue increasing in pattern until desired diameter, once diameter is reached, move on to rim rounds.
Rim Rounds
Rounds 8-14: SC in every st around to stitch marker. 105 SC
Finishing: SC 2 sts in next 8 sts. Fasten off, weave in ends. Cut rope ends up to start and end of yarn on either end of project.
