Thimble Overview
A while back I had the chance to try out some Clover thimbles. I was working on a hand quilting project and the one I had purchased from another brand had worn out very quickly (nothing like finding that out the hard way with a sharp poke!). I tested out each one and wanted to share my findings here.
Protect and Grip Thimble
First up we have the Protect and Grip Thimble (Art. No 6025-6027). A good snug fit for quick sewing, this thimble seems built to last with its metal and silicone structure, although might get a bit hot during long use.
Leather Thimble
Next is this neat knuckle thimble (Leather Thimble-Art. No 612) that fits over your finger, leaving your finger tips free. I didn’t end up using this one for my hand quilting but I think it would be great on a more heavy duty project that really needs some push, such as denim or canvas.
Open Sided Thimble
The Open Sided Thimble (Art. No 6017-6018) reminds me of the more traditional thimbles I grew up seeing. However, it’s more modern features such as adjustable size and open tip (for those fancy nails we sometimes have) make it a great option.
Double Sided Thimble
My runner up choice would have to go to this Double Sided Thimble (Art. No 616). It is made of leather and has a metal panel that wraps around the tip and goes down both sides. The metal can also be pinched a bit to give a tighter fit and you never have to worry about getting a finger poke with this one.
Coin Thimble
And lastly, the Coin Thimble (Art. No 6014) is my thimble of choice that I used for my hand quilting project. For me it was comfortable and felt the most natural fit and extension of my finger tip but also had the durability factor with the metal “coin”.
So if you find yourself with sore finger pokes, the Coin Thimble is a great option that is sure to make sewing much more enjoyable. Once again Clover has come through in all things sewing related.
