DIY Sunglasses Case *free sewing pattern*

Hello, everybody! The sun is out and Spring is here, which means it’s time to bring out the sunglasses. I love wearing my sunglasses, but somehow they still manage to get left behind, lost in a bag, or scratched from being tossed around. So, I’m sharing a simple DIY sunglasses case that solves that problem. Not only does it protect your sunglasses, but it also has straps so you can keep them with you and not forget them when you’re on the go. It’s a quick, beginner-friendly sew and a great way to use up some fabric scraps while making something practical for all those sunny days ahead.

Materials:

SUNGLASSES CASE TUTORIAL:

1. To create the pattern, cut out these measurements below:

You can use your Clover 5-in-1 Sliding Gauge to double-check measurements as you cut.

2. Place the batting onto the wrong side of the outer fabric pieces. Clip it in place using. Clover Flower Pins. Quilt or baste if desired to secure the layers. The batting gives the case extra protection for your sunglasses. Set aside the Back piece for now.

3. With right sides together, pin the top of the lining pocket to the main body pocket. Sew the top edge of the pocket by 1/4″. Flip it right sides out. Press and topstitch 1/4″ from the edge. Baste around the edge of the pocket. Trim any excess fabric/batting. Use Clover 5-in-1 Sliding Gauge to make sure the snap is placed 1 1/4″ from the top edge of the pocket at the center.  Apply a snap to the front of the pocket by sewing around the edges.

4. Place the Front face up onto the front of the Back lining piece and clip together using Clover Wonder Clips. Baste into place.

5. Create the strap by folding the strap lengthwise with the right sides facing. Press and sew a 1/4″ seam. Do not sew the ends closed. Turn it right side out using the Clover Easy Loop Turner. Press. Attach the strap to the side seam of the Front. Baste in place.

6. Grab the outer “back” piece you put together with the batting from earlier. With the right sides together, pin the Back piece onto the case that you put together. Make sure the straps are inside. Sew all the way around the pieces, leaving about a 3″ opening on one side. Trim the seam down. Turn right sides out. Use the Clover Easy Loop Turner to push the corners out.

7. Use a needle and thread to hand stitch the side closed with an invisible stitch.

8. Attach the other side of the snap to the top of the Back piece, making sure they match up with the velcro that was sewn onto the Front.

And that’s it! A quick and practical little project that keeps your sunglasses protected and easy to grab when the sun is shining. These cases are perfect for using up fabric scraps, so feel free to experiment with fun prints and colors. Happy Sewing!
