AVOCADO PATTERN:

PART A (front side, starting with the pit):

Use your 6 mm Clover Amour Hook and Caramel yarn.

  • Round 1: make a magic circle and (sc) x8 [8]
  • Round 2: (inc) x8 [16]
  • Round 3: (sc, inc) x8 [24]
  • Round 4: (3 sc, inc) x6 [30]
  • Round 5: (2 sc, inc, 2 sc) x6 [36]
  • Round 6: sc all around [36]

Use the invisible finish and fasten off. In the st right before the faux st just created, join Kiwi yarn.

    • Note: The next rnd will be written in two parts but will count as 1 rnd.
  • Round 7a: (blo) – loosely slst all around [36]
  • Round 7b: (blo) – (5 sc, inc) x6 [42]
  • Round 8: (3 sc, inc, 3 sc) x6 [48]
  • Round 9: (7 sc, inc) x6 [54]
  • Round 10: (4 sc, inc, 4 sc) x6 [60]

In the next rnd, we will crochet in rows.

Mark the current st and count 17 sts over. Mark the 18th st. This will show where the avocado will be worked in rows. [img]

  • Row 1: 18 sc, do not ch 1, turn [18]
  • Row 2: skip the first st, 16 sc, skip the last st, do not ch 1, turn [16]

  • Row 4: skip the first st, 14 sc, do not ch 1, turn [14]
  • Row 5: skip the first st, 13 sc, do not ch 1, turn [13]
  • Row 6: skip the first st, 12 sc, do not ch 1, turn [12]
  • Row 7: skip the first st, 10 sc, skip the last st [10] [img]

Now, we will crochet the border which will count as rnd 12. The new start of the rnd will be in the next st. [img]

  • Round 12:
    • Step 1: 7 sc down the left side of the piece.
    • Step 2: 42 sc around the bottom.
    • Step 3: 7 sc up the right side.
    • Step 4: 10 sc across the top.
  • Round 13: sc all around [66]

Fasten off and leave a short tail.

Counting from the stitch markers we left for creating the rows, locate where rows 4-5 are. Insert the safety eyes 6 sts apart. Modify the placement as desired to create different expressions!

Cut 6 inches of Dark Brown cotton yarn and embroider a smile. Secure the yarn tails into a knot on the backside of the piece.

PART B (back side):

Use your 6 mm Clover Amour Hook and Emerald yarn.

  • Round 1: make a magic circle and (sc) x8 [8]
  • Round 2: (inc) x8 [16]
  • Round 3: (sc, inc) x8 [24]
  • Round 4: (3 sc, inc) x6 [30]
  • Round 5: (2 sc, inc, 2 sc) x6 [36]
  • Round 6: (5 sc, inc) x6 [42]

  • Round 8: (7 sc, inc) x6 [54]
  • Round 9: (4 sc, inc, 4 sc) x6 [60]

In the next rnd, we will crochet in rows.

Mark the current st and count 17 sts over. Mark the 18th st.

  • Row 7: skip the first st, 10 sc, skip the last st [10] [img 4]

Now, we will crochet the border which will count as rnd 10. The new start of the rnd will be in the next st.

  • Round 10:
    • Step 1: 7 sc down the left side of the piece.
    • Step 2: 42 sc around the bottom.
    • Step 3: 7 sc up the right side.
    • Step 4: 10 sc across the top.
  • Rounds 11-13 (3 rnds total): sc all around [66]

Do not fasten off. Continue onto assembly.

ASSEMBLY:

  • Step 1: Position parts A and B with the ws facing each other.
  • Step 2: Because of the slightly oblong shape, use stitch markers to hold the two pieces aligned.

  • Step 3: Going through both loops of part B (dark green) and the flo of part A, sc the two parts closed until you have about 1/3 remaining.
  • Step 4: Fill a disposable sock with weighted pellets and insert it into the bottom of the avocado. Stuff well, making sure to fill out the pit.
  • Step 5: Finish crocheting the piece closed and use the invisible finish
