Little Lamb crochet pattern

Happy Spring! This little lamb is inspired by the Easter holiday as well as my most recent visit to the farm. The baby lambs were so fluffy and small! 🙂 These little friends are a perfect addition to your home — think elf on the shelf, but for the springtime! My little lamb works up in ~1 hr. and is a low-sew pattern (the only thing requiring sewing is the head to the body).

MATERIALS:

Clover Amour Hook 2.75 mm
Clover Patchwork Scissors
Clover Yarn Needle
#3 light worsted yarn
- Hobbii Friends Cotton 8/8 yarn in Nude
#5 bulky yarn
- Bernat Pipsqueak yarn in White
  - Note: It is very important to use the different yarn weights as prescribed. Substituting the fluffy white yarn will lead to the amigurumi being unproportional. Use yarnsub.com to check compatibility with alternative yarns! 🙂

When working decreases in the Fluffy White yarn, make regular decreases instead of invisible decreases.
This pattern is written in US terminology.
Difficulty: intermediate-beginner+ due to working with fluffy yarn and the use of bobble stitches
Measurements: 2.5 in. x 5 in. [~6 cm x ~13 cm]
Time: ~ 1 hour

ABBREVIATIONS:

ch: chain
sc: single crochet
slst: slip stitch
st(s): stitch(es)
rnd: round(s)
yo: yarn over
[#]: stitch count
(…) x #: repeat instructions the number of times

SPECIAL STITCH:

bo: Yarn over, insert hook into stitch, yarn over, draw loop back through stitch, yarn over and pull through 2 loops. Repeat this 3 more times until you have 5 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all 5 loops.

LITTLE LAMB PATTERN:

EARS (make 2):

Use your 2.75 mm Clover Amour Hook and Nude yarn.

Round 1: make a slipknot and ch 3, starting from the second ch from the hook, sc into the next ch, (mark this with a st marker) 3 sc into the next ch, turn and work along the underside of the ch and be sure to crochet over the yarn tail left from the starting slipknot, sc into the next ch, slst into the very first ch (which is marked with a st marker)

Fasten off and leave a short tail.

HEAD:

Use your 2.75 mm Clover Amour Hook and Nude yarn.

Round 1: make a magic circle and (sc) x8 [8]
Round 2: (inc) x8 [16]
Round 3: (sc, inc) x8 [24]
Round 4: sc all around [24]
Round 5: (2 sc, dec) x6 [18]

In the next rnd, we will crochet in or “join” the ears. Each ear will span 1 st. To join the piece:

- Step 1: Place the ear in front of the head (you will need to position each ear to frame the face).
- Step 2: Insert your hook through both layers of the ear (3 loops total on your hook).
- Step 3: Insert your hook into the next st on the head (4 loops total on your hook).

- Step 4: Make a regular sc.

Round 6: 5 sc, *ear*, 6 sc, *ear*, 5 sc [18]

Insert the safety eyes between rnds 5-6, 6 sts apart. Change to Fluffy White yarn and cut the Nude yarn.

Round 7: (sc, dec) x6 [12]

Stuff well.

Round 8: (dec) x6 [6]

Fasten off and leave a tail for closing up the piece. Stuff one last time (use tweezers to get into the narrow opening if needed). With your Clover darning needle, weave through the flo and pull the hole closed. We will add the facial details later.

BODY:

Use your 2.75 mm Clover Amour Hook and start in Fluffy White yarn.

Note: The body is made from back to front. The last rnd will be where we sew it to the head.

Round 1: make a magic circle and (sc) x6 [6]
Round 2: (inc) x6 [12]
Round 3: (sc, inc) x6 [18]
Round 4: sc all around [18]

In the next rnd, we will create the back legs using bobble sts (bo).

Round 5: 12 sc, (Nude) bo (do the final yo in Fluffy White), (White) 4 sc, (Nude) bo (do the final yo in Fluffy White) [18]

Continue in fluffy White yarn and do not cut the Nude yarn.

Rounds 6-8 (3 rnds total): sc all around [18]

In the next rnd, we will create the front legs in the same way.

Round 9: 12 sc, (Nude) bo (do the final yo in Fluffy White), (White) 4 sc, (Nude) bo (do the final yo in Fluffy White) [18]

Continue in fluffy White yarn and cut the Nude yarn.

Round 10: (4 sc, dec) x3 [15]
Round 11: (3 sc, dec) x3 [12]

Stuff well.

Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing to the head.

ASSEMBLY:

Using the yarn tail remaining from the body, sew the body onto the back of the head.

Optional: You can sew the head on at a slight angle for different poses! 😀

FACIAL FEATURES:

Note: Follow my support video HERE.
Step 1: Separate 1 strand of Dark Brown embroidery thread (if it’s the kind with multiple strands).
Step 2: Weave into the side of the head and out 2 sts away from either eye.
Step 3: Weave over 1 st and into the head. (This will be the nose).
Step 4: Weave back out 1/2 rnd below the middle of the nose and weave over it to create the “v” shape.
Step 5: Embroider a line right below the nose for the mouth.
Step 6: Weave back out where you entered in from and secure the thread tails into a knot.
Step 7: Bury the excess thread into the head.

Blush: Using a cotton swab, gently add some blush to the lamb’s nose and cheeks, gradually building the pigment.
