It’s National TACO Day! (and it’s not even Tuesday…)

Hi everyone! My name is Molly from @louloopsco on IG! Today, October 4th is National Taco Day! This delicious crochet pattern uses plush yarn and a 9mm Clover Amour Crochet Hook. It will really give everyone something to taco ‘bout!

 

MATERIALS:

• plush yarn in shades of gold, green, yellow, brown, white, and red (I like using a combination of Big Twist plush and Bernat Blanket yarn to find the be st suited colors)
• 9 mm Amour crochet hook
• darning needle
• scissors
• hot glue
• polyfil
• 14mm safety eyes (optional)
• black embroidery thread for mouth
• stitch markers

STITCHES AND ABBREVIATIONS:

• ch – chain
• ss – slip stitch
• sc – single crochet
• inc – increase
• hdc – half double crochet

NOTES:

Some parts of this pattern will work in the round and some parts in rows. I am opting to use hot glue for some parts of this project in order to minimize seeing the stitches on the outside of the taco shell, and it also helps keep some of the parts in place before sewing. If you prefer to only sew, that works too!

TACO SHELL:

• Using gold, make 8 scs in a magic ring (or use ch 2 method).
• Increase in each (16).
• Inc, then sc in the next, repeating around (24).
• Inc, then sc in the next 2, repeating around (32).
• Inc, then sc in the next 3, repeating around (40).
• Inc, then sc in the next 4, repeating around (48).
• Sc in each stitch around (48).
• Fold in half, tie off leaving a long tail for sewing.

LETTUCE:

• Using green, chain 21.
• In the second chain from the hook, make 3 hdcs. Ss in the next stitch. Repeat 3 hdcs in one, and ss in the next. Repeat to the end of the row. Tie off and set aside.

TOMATO:

• Using red, working in the round, make 6 scs in a magic ring (or use ch 2 method).
• In the next round, inc in each stitch (12).
• Make 2 or 3 depending on how you want to arrange them in your taco.

GROUND BEEF:

• Using brown, ch 17.
• Hdc in the second ch from the hook, and each stitch after (16).
• Tie off.

SOUR CREAM:

• Chain 6. Make 2 scs in the second chain from the hook.
• Make 4 scs each in then the rest of the stitches to make a little curlicue. Leave a long tail for sewing.

 

Fold the taco shell in half. If you want to add a face, now would be the time to add your safety eyes and mouth. Using a glue gun, secure the beef in place. Next, arrange your lettuce, tomato, and sour cream, and glue or sew those in place. Be sure the “toppings” peek out of the top of the taco shell so you can see them. Using your long taco shell tail, sew the taco shell closed. Weave in your ends. Once everything is secured in place, use your darning needle and yellow yarn to weave/sew some sprinkles of “cheese” across the top of the taco.
