This extra chunky daisy pillow will make an amazing, unique, handmade gift for all the moms in your life this Mother’s Day! Personalize this pillow with your favorite color combinations. This pillow works up pretty quickly, and you can change the size of the pillow by downsizing your hooks and yarn.
Materials: Clover amour soft touch hooks. I’m using a 15.00mm and a 9.00mm, Bernat Blanket Yarn – Extra (7). I used almost exactly one full skein (10.5 oz). If you are a loose crocheter, you may need a second skein. You will also need scissors, clover needle set, poly-fil stung, and a stitch marker as needed.
Stitches and Abbreviations: Chain (ch), slip stitch (ss), single crochet (sc), single crochet decrease.
Notes: You will work in a continuous round. Do not join at the end of each round. Use a stitch marker to keep track of your rounds. When working with the extra thick blanket yarn, it’s very easy to lose track!
Petals – Make 5
Using the 15mm hook and yarn color of your choice:
Round 1: In a magic ring make 8 scs (or chain 2 and in the second chain from the hook, make 8 scs).
Round 2: Increase in each stitch around (16)
Round 3: Sc in each stitch around (16).
Round 4: Increase in the first stitch, sc in the next, (repeat all the way around, ending with 24 stitches).
Rounds 5-7: Sc in each stitch around (72 stitches in total).
Round 8: Single crochet 2 together (decrease), sc in the next (repeat all the way around ending with 16 stitches).
Tie o and weave in the end. Add some poly-fil but make sure not to overstu. We will be sandwiching the open ends of the petals together to crochet onto the pistil (the center of the flower) . Make sure to crochet 4 more petals (5 total).
Pistil – Using the 15 mm hook and yarn color of your choice:
Round 1: In a magic ring make 6 scs.
Round 2: Increase in each stitch around (12).
Round 3: Increase in each stitch around (24).
Round 4: Increase in the first, then sc in the next 3, repeat all the way around (30). Round 5: Increase in the first, then sc in the next 2, repeat all the way around (40).
Round 7: Decrease then sc in the next 2. Repeat all the way around (30).
Round 8: Decrease then sc in the next 3. Repeat all the way around (24).
Round 9: Decrease, sc. Repeat all the way around (12).
*Pause to stu the center of the flower*
Round 9: Decrease all the way around (6)
Trim your yarn leaving a long tail, and use your tapestry needle to weave the opening closed. Tie o and weave in the end.
To give the flower a more polished look, you can use your 9 mm hook, attach yarn, and slip stitch all the way around the outer edge of the pistil. Voila! Gift these to your favorite mamas!
