Valentine Messy Bun Hat

You won’t have to worry about your hair when you have the cutest messy-bun hat with the sweetest pattern. Don’t worry, it’s easy! The hat only has 2 colors and you can work through the colorwork section with the chart or the written section if you prefer.   • Universal Yarn Deluxe Worsted Superwash
  • 100# superwash, (3.5oz/100 g/218 yds/200m)
  • Medium weight yarn
  • 1 skein of each: Berry Crush – #734 (A), Cream – #759 (B)
  • Amour Crochet Hook I (5.5 mm) – Art. No 1048/I

 

Gauge

16 sc x 15 rnds = 4 in. (10 cm)

 

Special Stitches

Front Post Double Crochet (abbreviated  FPdc): YO, insert hook from front to back around post of st indicated, YO and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), (YO and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice.

 

Back Post Double Crochet (abbreviated BPdc): Yarn over, insert hook into st back to front to back, pull up loop, pull through 2 loops; yarn over, insert hook into next st back to front to back, pull up loop, pull through 2 loops; yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on hook to complete.

 

Single Crochet 2 Together (abbreviated sc2tog): Pull up a loop in next 2 sts, YO and draw through all 3 loops on hook (counts as one sc).

 

Notes

  1. Hat is made by working in joined rounds.
  2. Yarn color is changed following chart to form design on Hat. Each box on Chart represents one single crochet worked with the indicated yarn. Read chart from right to left each time because the hat is worked in joined rounds.
  3. To change yarn color, work the last st of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete st. Proceed with new color. When working Chart, do not cut old color. Carry yarn color not in use along tops of sts of previous row and work current sts over the top of the carried strand.
  4. All rnds are joined with a sl st to the BACK loop of each rnd to help create a seamless hat.
  5. Beginning on Rnd 4, work in the BLO for each round.

 

Directions

WIth Color A, ch 72; join with sl st.

Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 2, hdc in each ch around; join with sl st to first hdc – 72 hdc.

Rnds 2-3: Ch 2 (not a st), * FPdc in next st, BPdc on next st; rep from * around; join with sl st to first st.

 

Rnd 4: Continue to work in joined rnds of sc changing yarn color following Chart until all rnds of Chart have been completed. Pick back up on written pattern after Chart is completed on Rnd 19.
