Pom-Pom Garland Tutorial

Hi there!

Today I have an easy no sew project that is quick enough to do before the holidays are over and simple enough that the kids can help too!
I say this every time, but I always forget how much fun it is to make Pom-Pom’s with these easy to use Pom-Pom makers from Clover. I decided to make a little garland to add some charm to my home for the holidays but I can also imagine using reds and greens or making a Valentine’s one or red white and blue for the summer.
Here’s what you will need:
Yarn
Pom-Pom Maker Set – Art. No 3129
Thread (a floss or thicker thread is best)
Patchwork Scissors – Art. No 493/S
Yarn needle
If you haven’t used the Pom-Pom tool yet it is very simple and comes with easy to use instructions. One thing I learned this time around is to make sure that when winding the yarn around each side that your halves each look a bit like a crescent moon rather than a half circle. Using a little bit less yarn than you think worked better for me than cramming it too full.
Starting at one end of the first side, wind your yarn around roughly two times. Close the finished side and open the second side and repeat, then close. Using your scissors, cut down the center of each side. Next take a good length of thread and tie around center. Note: I found that tying once on one side and then turning over and double knotting on the other side worked much better than trying to double knot on the first side, the threads just held better. Pull open each side and remove your Pom-Pom. I like to roll it between my hands like a cookie dough ball to give it a bit more shape, then trim any long or frayed bits sticking out.
For this garland of about five feet I made 8 of the 1 3/4 inch Pom-Pom’s and four of the one inch ones. Once you have all of your Pom-Pom’s finished, take a length of yarn about 12 inches long. Tie a knot at one end, using a large needle thread through the center of the one inch Pom pulling to the end of the length of yarn, thread through two more Pom-Pom’s leaving about 2 1/2 inches between each Pom and a long tail for tying at the end. Repeat to make four of these sets.
Using two or three lengths of yarn about 6 feet long, place on the floor or a long table and adjust the lengths to give a bit of separation to each strand. Space each Pom-Pom strand 12 inches apart and tie using the extra length of yarn from each strand. Cut the tails off the ends of each strand and tie a loop at each end of the garland for hanging.
Your garland is now finished and ready to hang by stockings or on a tree or even on the headboard of a bed. I think for now these are going to hang by the stockings and after Christmas will hang in my boys room along with twinkling lights.
I hope you have time for some quick crafting, this would be so much fun to do with kids home on winter break! Stock up on some fun yarns and grab a variety pack of Clover Pom-Pom makers and some hot cocoa and make a crafting day!
