Zigzag Table Runner

Gauge: 14 sts x 7.5 rows of double crochet

Notes:

  1. This pattern is written in American Standard Terms.
  2. Sc sts are worked in ch-5 sps or in middle of 5 dc clusters (3rd dc of 5 dc group) depending what comes next in the previous row.
  3. The pattern has 5 dc clusters and 3 dc clusters worked on the ends and in the beginning of some rows. Ch 3 counts as a dc in those 3 dc clusters.
  4. The pattern consists of clusters and ch-5 spaces. You always work a cluster and then two empty “cells”, you will see this pattern once you start your work.

Instructions:

Fsc 69 sts. Turn.

Row 1: ch 1, sc 1, *ch 5, sk 3, sc 1* across (17 ch-5 sps).

Row 2: ch 3, dc 2 in the same st, sc 1 in ch-5 sp, *ch 5, sc 1 in ch-5 sp, ch 5, sc 1 in next ch-5 sp, 5 dc in next sc, sc 1 in ch-5 sp* 5 times, ch 5, sc 1 in ch-5 sp, ch 2, dc in last sc st.

Row 3: ch 1, sc 1 in the same st, ch 5, sc 1 in next ch-5 sp, *5 dc in next sc, sc 1 in 3rd dc of 5 dc cluster, ch 5, sc 1 in next ch-5 sp, ch 5, sc 1 in next ch-5 sp* 5 times, 5 dc in  next sc, sc 1 in top of ch 3.

Row 4: ch 5, sc 1 in 3rd dc of 5-dc cluster, *5 dc in next sc, sc 1 in ch-5 sp, ch 5, sc 1 in next ch-5 sp, ch 5, sc 1 in 3rd dc of 5 dc cluster* 5 times, 5 dc in next sc, sc 1 in next ch-5 sp, ch 2 and dc in next sc.

Row 5: ch 1, sc 1 in the same st, *5 dc in next sc, sc 1 in 3rd dc of 5 dc cluster, ch 5, sc 1 in next ch-5 sp, ch 5, sc 1 in next ch-5 sp* 5 times, 5 dc in next sc, sc 1 in 3rd dc of 5 dc cluster, ch 5, sc 1 in 3rd ch of turning chain of previous row.

Row 6: ch 5, sc 1 in ch-5 sp, ch 5, sc 1 in 3rd dc of 5 dc cluster, *5 dc in next sc, sc 1 in ch-5 sp, ch 5, sc 1 in next ch-5 sp, ch 5, sc 1 in 3rd dc of 5 dc cluster* 5 times, 3 dc in next sc.

Row 7: ch 1, sc 1, *5 dc in next sc, sc 1 in next ch-5 sp, ch 5, sc 1 in next ch-5 sp, ch 5, sc 1 in 3rd dc of 5 dc cluster* 5 times, 5 dc in next sc, sc 1 in next ch-5 sp, ch 5, sc 1 in 3rd ch of turning chain.

Row 8: ch 5, sc 1 in ch-5 sp, *5 dc in next sc, sc 1 in 3rd dc of 5 dc cluster, ch 5, sc 1 in next ch-5 sp, ch 5, sc 1 in next ch-5 sp* 5 times, 5 dc in next sc, sc 1 in 3rd dc of 5 dc cluster, ch 2 and dc in last st.

Row 9: ch 1, sc 1, ch 5, sc 1 in 3rd dc of 5 dc cluster, *5 dc in next sc, sc 1 in next ch-5 sp, ch 5, sc 1 in next ch-5 sp, ch 5, sc 1 in 3rd dc of 5 dc cluster* 5 times, 5 dc in next sc, sc 1 in 3rd turning ch from previous row.

Row 10: ch 3, 2 dc in the same st, sc 1 in 3rd dc of 5 dc cluster, *ch 5, sc 1 in next ch-5 sp, ch 5, sc 1 in next ch-5 sp, 5 dc in next sc, sc 1 in 3rd dc of 5 dc cluster* 5 times, ch 5, sc 1 in next ch-5 sp, ch 2, dc in next sc.

Repeat rows 3-10 till desired length of the table runner.

Last row: ch 1, sc across ( 1 sc in each sc, 3 sc in each ch-5 sp, 3 sc in each 5 dc cluster (69).

Weave in ends, block, add fringe if desired.

Fringe.

Cut 6 10” strands of yarn, fold them in half, insert your crochet hook into the desired space and hook the folded yarn loop. Pull the loop through, open it up and slip all the ends of the yarn through the loop. Repeat in every 8th/9th st alternately. You can customize their placement to your liking.
