Notions Pouch

Hi everyone! It’s Julia from Little World of Whimsy, and I’m here to bring you a super cute sewing pattern that’s perfect for carrying all your Clover notions. This pouch is about the size of your hand and functions as a cute coin purse or for stitch markers.

This is a project for advanced beginners who can crochet in rounded corners. It can be made easily with scraps from your fabric stash

.Finished Size
• 4.5? wide, 4.5? tall, 0.5? deep

Materials
• 1/8 yard exterior main print fabric (linen or other lightweight fabric)
• 7” zipper (or longer, just follow instructions on the package to shorten any zipper)
• Sewing Scissors Art. No 493
• Water Soluble Pencil Art. No 515
• Sewing Pins or Wonder Clips Art. No 3185
• Sewing machine
• Matching thread

(1/4 inch seam allowance throughout unless otherwise noted)

Cut the pieces:
• Front and back: 2 pieces of exterior fabric 5” wide by 5” tall
• Gusset: 1 piece of exterior fabric 1” wide by 11” tall

Assembling the gusset
Lay the gusset piece right sides together with the zipper. Sew the zipper to the gusset with a 1/2 inch seam allowance.

In a similar manner, lay the zipper right sides together to the other side of the gusset, and sew together with a 1/2 inch seam allowance.

Press the gusset away from the zipper, and top stitch 1/4 inch from the seams. This should form a loop.

Marking the pieces
Fold the gusset circle in half wrong sides together, matching together the seams between the zipper and gusset. Mark the top and bottom of the folded piece at the crease.

Then, fold the circle in half matching together the marks you just made, and mark the top and bottom of the circle. This should result in marks made at every quarter around the gusset.

Then, mark the two front and back square pieces at the quarters by folding each square in half horizontally then vertically, and making small marks at the creases.

Round the corners
Make a mark 1.5” from the edge of each side of the square. Using a pair of scissors, round off the corner beginning and ending at each of these 1.5” marks. Repeat on all the other corners, and on the second square.

Assemble the pouch
Match up the quarter markings one of the squares with the gusset, right sides together. Clip them together at each quarter marking, and also at each of the four corners.

To help the gusset stretch around the corners of the squares, cut a few 3/8” inch slits (just inside the 1/4” seam allowance) at the corners of the gusset to match them up more easily.

Sew all the way around.

Press the exterior away from the zipper. Match up the quarter markings of the remaining square with the gusset right sides together and pin in the same way as before, repeating the small cuts on the gusset to match up the corners more easily. Sew all around.

Flip pouch inside out and snip any stray threads. You’re done!
